Taken from hiptop forums:

Got a replacement device, bought one of ebay, etc... and the previous owner's info is still there? Here's something you can try:

1) Remove your sim card

2) From the jump screen: Menu -> Settings -> System Info

3) Press Menu+Shift+X Select OK to clear the flash.

4) Press Menu+Shift+R Select OK to clear the login information.

4) Perform a hard reset now. This will reboot the device.

To perform a hard reset, press the power button and reset button at the same time. Unit will vibrate when reset. You can use a paper clip or similiar to hit the reset button located behind the screen.

5) Reinsert your Sim Card

The device will reboot again. It should now startup to a screen asking if you are a "New User" or "Returning User". Select Returning User, enter your login information, and you're good to go. Your data, and catalog purchases will be synced in the background to your device.

If after the reboot, your are given the login window with the old username again, you will have to call your carrier and ask them to detach your device IMEI from the previous owner.

What if that doesn't happen? I just got a sidekick 2 off ebay and had changed my plan to the sidekick plan. I did the hard reset and all the instructions you just posted, but when it reboots, the log-in screen doesn't show up at all. When I went back to settings-system info, the original username (from the previous person) is no longer there.

Most probably the reason is that the sidekick data services goes through Danger's servers and since Sunday they've had some major problems. As of 8:45pm central time I still have no data services with the sidekick, no web, no email, no AIM, says Network Unavailable. Hopefully they'll have things up shortly. Right now what you can do is call the tmobile customer care and ask for the wireless data group and tell them that you are trying to activate you're new sidekick and it's not working. They'll tell you that there is problems with the network and they are working to resolve things, ask about reimbursement for the time your paying for when the service is down and they'll probably issue you a $5 credit or 50 extra minutes of talk time added to your account for the month. As far as you are concerned, you've done everything right to clear the old user's info from the device.

ok...so now the sign in screen appears, which at first I was happy to see because I thought services had been restored...but when I registered (or tried registering), it says there was a problem connecting and offered me to try again, but if there still were problems, that I should contact CS. So is this still because of the outage?? or should I waste time trying to call CS because this is a problem with my services (on T-Mobile sides) rather than Danger's servers?

It's still probably because everything still isn't working 100% on Danger's side. Right now I still don't have web, had it for a bit this morning but now nothing, AIM, and email have been working fine since this morning. So if the registration portion uses the web services then that's it's still not going to work.
