Sim Card advice for 650 (Cingular)

Hi all,
Well, my Cingular 650 should be arriving today. I have been using Samsung/Moto flip phones all along with a 32K Gemplus sim card. Can anyone share advice on starting up the phone with this sim card in it? I have searched the forum regarding the issue, but I've read conflicting reports about the Gemplus and Axalto cards. So:

Is it better to start the phone off with the Gemplus 32K, or get an Axalto somewhere Any help is appreciated. Not booting the phone up till I hear from the experts!

from what i ve heard it is a good idea to stay away from the gemplus ones. all the emails i receive from cingular stating problems with the treo all involve gemplus sim cards. i personally had a gemplus sim card and just switched over to an axalto sim just to be on the safe side.

I have had not one problem using the Gemplus 32K, now i have heard bad things about the Gemplus 64K, thus get the Axalto 64K.

I dont have ENS, but thats something I can live without, if it isnt broken, no need to try and fix

forgive my ignorance but, what is the difference between the 2 sim cards? How can I tell which I have? If I have a crappy one will Cingular just give me the other?

The only problems I've heard/read about are w/ the 64k gemplus. 32k's are fine. And to figure out if you have a gemplus or a axalto, there's a letter w/ the number on your sim, if it's a letter 'a' it's axalto and 'g' is gemplus.

That's good news, mine is 32k.

the a sim card took care of the problems for my treo but now i have issues with the versamail rebooting my system as well as my voice mail not working.
even after i was on the phone with tech for over 45 minutes! i even went to the call preferences but it still doesn't forward to my voice mail when people call.
i have spent to much time trying to make this phone work. i may have to switch to the mpx or other.

Thanks for all of the advice! I wasn't going to use it until I tracked down an Axalto 64K sim, but I couldn't wait and luckily my 32K Gemplus sim is working fine so far

The next thing is to choose the right plan. I'm on an old Media Basic Plan for $7.99. w/500 kb (yikes!) What I don't get is.....does the $24.99 Media Works plan cover any text/mulitimedia messaging!!?? I couldn't get that simple answer from Customer Service.

The 24.99 unlimited WIX doesn't include any text or mms. I have the unlimited wix and included the 200 txt plan, so all in all I'm paying an extra $30.00 on top of my nat450 plan. Still a lot better than what I was going to do by getting a sidekick w/ t-mobile and keeping my cingular plan due to t-mobiles spotty coverage.

and kenfv, versamail sometime hangs on me if I'm in a fring reception area. once or twice versamail caused a crash, but i think a couple of times it was just a delay because i started trying to do a lot of commands while versamail was "hanging".

Mykeee: Does that include Multimedia messages? ie, sending a text message with a photo?

That's a separate feature as well.

$2.99 MMS package includes 20 per month with $0.25 per extra.

$4.99 MMS package includes 40 per month with $0.20 per extra.

Or Pay Per Use MMS which is standard on all accounts at $0.25 per message.
