Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 7520. | DONE.: BlackBerry7520/4.0.0 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.12)

No cons...hence the term UPgrade....

I understand the meaning of the term upgrade... thanks martin... I also know the meaning of the term unnecessary

just want to know if it is worth the effort

OTA sync if your BES is so equipped

I think you need 4.0 if you want to be able to open picture attachments.

nope. i have a 7100t and it doesnt have 4.0 and i can open picture attachments just fine.

Minimal differences. I think that the original 7100t code had some BT bugs in it that were corrected in later releases). Big difference is over the air syncing (as mentioned) and Enterprise Activation if you have BES 4.0. Nothing earth shattering, but the BT bug fixes (if you use Bluetooth) would be enough for me to recommend it.

Good, then why the post??

The "effort" to upgrade is so minimal, why even question it--its not like its that difficult....

Going to 4.0.0.198 will drop your bluetooth headset volume by at least a third. It is REALLY annoying. I had hoped that the 4.0.0.234 would fix this but I have heard conflicting reports. I'm waiting for T-Mobile t release it before trying. The only improvement I noticed is some secure web sites that had not worked previously came up fine after the 4.0 upgrade.

I question because I can... and being new to BB I question because I should...

thank you for being helpful... oh wait - unlike everyone else, you weren’t

The calculator interface is entirely different in the 4.0 release - that is the only thing I've noticed, since I don't have BES.

This upgrade was a waste of time for me.

For what it's worth, 4.0 makes the calculator usable. Though it doesn't work in a few themes, like Vodaphone.

better radio aswell.

A couple of things, With BES you can provision wirelesly, And open Jpeg, png, bmp, gif, tiff, doc/pdf files and for the oversea crew you can go from BB to Laptop to internet to BB router behind firewall with no need of an overseas network connection. For encryption you have AES 256 bit, which for security is kind of cool.

The 3.8 code that comes on the 7100's is very similar to the 4.0 code. The main difference is wireless sync is not available to 3.8.

Maybe the jump from 3.8 to 4.0 was minimal, but for me, going from 3.7 to 4.0 on a 7730 (T-Mobile) was huge. I finally got the ability to see pictures as email attachments and to save them, background images on the various screens should I so choose, and what feels like better overall performance. The performance boost is a totally subjective feeling, but there it is, none the less.
