And now you know why I switched to a Blackberry w/ Nextel. Over the last 6 months, T-Mobile's data service has become as big a joke as their cell phone coverage in the US. Dump the SK, leave T-Mo, and switch to a Blackberry, Treo 650, or other PDA phone w/ a better carrier. You'll be glad you did.

Posted by: Slimsaturn

WOOO I just got my G7 back baby....able to send e-mail...web browsing didn;t work coudlnt; test anything else as I was on my way to work and I don't have signal in the office.

Posted by: Icebolt5

I got a text today from TMO that apologized for the outage and said that service should be restored soon. It also made note that voice and txt messaging were still functional.

Too bad that I prefer using AIM...

Posted by: Slimsaturn

I got the same one at like 2:30 - - WTF would they send one soooo as early...Just to piss off the customers?

Posted by: Ajs24

I got the text this morning.. and i had G for about 3 minutes and was able to go on AIM and my e-mail was sent to me..

Posted by: Chris04

called again got my bonus mins.

she said they are upgrading the web and having problems wiht it.

Posted by: Sparky1000

Chris, have you been activated yet? I'm still waiting.

Thanks.

Posted by: Tazz.

Got that same text from T-Mobile also. Evrything started working (with the exception of the Web Browser) at about 2:45AM. At least I'm happy, for now.

Posted by: LaxStar18

I also am still waiting to be activated, since im on the togo plan i figure ill be out of prepaid time before this thing is actully working how its supposed to. At least SMS works i guess ill just use the hell outta that so i feel like im getting my moneys worth

Posted by: Chris04

yeah, phone is on a constant 3 dot.... it is almost there to the G needs to hurry up.

I'm not activated yet wish I was.

Posted by: MaK10

Yeah, me and lax bought ours last night... SMS works fine, which is cool, cause its what I personally use the most...

my concern is that the phone is only showing the little phone icon, not any dots like most people with no connection are showing... im assuming this is just cause it hasnt all been activated? but i have no clue...

Posted by: Chris04

I keep getting a steady 3 dots. I have work tonight and I hope to god it is back so I can acutally use aim tonight. well see =(

Posted by: Icebolt5

My G has been off and on all day. My friend cant get G at all.

Posted by: djayrage

I got that text message at 1:30 in the morning! Bad enough our emails and data doesn't work now TMo feels they have to get us out of bed as well!?
My data went back online as of 8am (central) but by 2pm everything was back to the 2 dot dance! WTF!?
I know it's problems on Danger's side, but you would assume Tmo would show a little more responsibility and show that they at least care a little bit about their customers.

I hope everyone calls TMo and asks for their $5 that they owe us for the service being down, maybe that'll make them wake up by affecting their $$$$

Posted by: rockrocks

i called three times.

so yeah, i basically only have to pay $5 for data this month.

Posted by: Jack T. Chance

Well, at least I now have a good, legitimate reason to complain to T-Mo and get my final bill for the SK lowered (I'll be shutting off my SK next week... thought it would be this week, but looks like that won't happen. I have to forward some of my saved emails to another account before I shut it off).

Seriously, guys & gals, switch to a Blackberry, or a Treo 650 if you must. You'll be SOOO much happier!

For instance, Nextel just had their first major interruption of the data service since I've been using the Blackberry. It was fixed in 3 hours... a fast turnaround time, especially when compared to T-Mobile and their service outages that last for a day or MORE. Then again, Nextel's focus is on BUSINESS USERS, and for that segment of the market, time is money. I wish T-Mobile would get it through their heads that time is money and service outages need to be fixed PRONTO. They might have happier customers if they did.

Went down again this evening for about ten minutes. Just had the two dancing dots for awhile then the 'G' came back up. Maybe they rebooted?

I once thought like you did. Luckily for me, I learned the error of my ways.

A PDA phone is only as good as the data network that allows it to function, and T-Mobile's data network is unreliable as hell these days! When I first got the SK in August 2003, I could use it most if the time when I wanted to use it. Service outages and browser timeouts were minimal, and over the course of 6-9 months, the service improved over time. At its best, I could use the SK more than 90% of the times when I wanted to use it.

But over the last 6 months, that's changed. Useable time has dropped to 50%, then 25%, then 10, and now, finally, to nothing this week. The $30 a month I paid for data only service ($32 after taxes) gets me NOTHING.

(To be continued)

As for Nextel's BB pricing, you are sadly misinformed. At this time, Unlimited BB Data Usage is only $35 a month IF you're smart enough to be on, or switch to, a National Free Incoming Plan! You'll get $10 off the BB Data Plan AND all incoming calls to your phone are FREE! Only a MORON would sign-up for Nextel and agree to pay for incoming calls when they didn't have to!

So, in the end, my BB service is only $3 more a month than I was paying for the SK, and it's MUCH more reliable! So, while you can't do anything with your SK this week except make and receive phone calls, and maybe play a few games, I can fully enjoy the wireless web!

And I'll no longer be as vulnerable to someone hacking into my carrier's website and stealing my personal data. In other words: SIDEKICK. Done. |

That's a one-time registration fee, and it's no different from buying a new piece of software for your PC. Unlike the Sidekick, the Blackberry is a more open-source platform, like a PC, making it easier for 3rd parties to develop software for it. But, like on a PC, you sometimes have to pay $30 or so for a main piece of software. It's worth it to have a PDA phone that actually WORKS when you need it to! And before you try to be a cheapskate and look for serialz for WebViewer, don't bother. Each registration key can only be used once, then it's useless.

i will agree if i had to do it again i would pass on the sidekick and i would get a 7100t or something similar for t mo blo. there is no way i would go with nexthell right now theough because sprint is going to turn off the tdma system soon then you are stuck buying a new phone.

Okay, first off, Motorola and Nextel extended their technology agreements all the way through the end of 2007, meaning that for the next 3 years, Motorola will continue to support the current iDen technology with new phones and new equipment on the network side of things, so it wouldn't be until 2008 at the EARLIEST that iDen would go away. Some reports even have it that Nextel may have to wait as much as 10 YEARS before they can get rid of the iDen network completely. That may be due in part to all the government and big business clients they have.

Secondly, IF that happens, I'll just switch to another carrier, such as Cingular, for my PDA phone needs. But I would NEVER use T-Mobile again for such a device, unless it is PROVEN to me that they've finally learned the error of their ways in regards to their data service, which, as far as I'm concerned, isn't likely to happen anytime soon. Even if you don't go with Nextel, you'll be far better off getting a Blackberry or a Treo 650 with Cingular, Verizon, or some other carrier than T-Maybe.

Posted by: Icebolt5

I was working again in Utah.. but now I am down. I am getting irritated

Posted by: Chris04

who isn't?

Posted by: LaxStar18

yes over here in chicago i have still been unable to activate this thing its now almost 2 pm central time. Its got till the end of the day before its going back to store with a vengance. And as for those of you talking about the nextel blackberry, you do realize there is a TMobile BB also, and that the it would not be affected by the problems of the SK as they are Dangers fault not TMobile?

Posted by: Tazz.

Mines' been up and running with full service since this morning. Let's hope it stays that way.

Posted by: LaxStar18

Yeah i can happily say i am up and running full speed ahead, and boy is it nice. Now lets just hope this never happens again, and maybe just maybe we can get an explanation sometime too

Posted by: sleeper5555

yep same here until you reboot then it goes down again (for an hour or so)
