Today while i was sending texts back and forth, the phone froze, i rebooted and now its dead

I think its the infamous WSOD. all the phone does now is boot up with the white screen says nokia on it. then shuts off the backlighting and the nokia word reappears thats all i get. I tried to let the phone sit w/o the sim, mmc and battery. and tried again. swap the battery out and nothing. took out the MMC and nothing to it.

Now i'm stuck with a vegetable.

I'm hoping to take advantage of Tmobile's thing where if your a customer still under the 1 year rule they will replace your phone. Sadly if it gets thru i think they will give me a QD in return. And further more i dont even think i will get it. buts its worth a try this is were i'm heading now.

Is the phone still flash-able. Are there any other options as to flashing the phone :*(

I miss my n-gage already. I'm taking this as a sign to sell it and get a 6620

i'm really not in the mood to send it out to flash it because the shipping is going to cost just the same amount as the flashing it self. I really do need a place more local to me. Or aleast a good place in the US anyways. That way i can do it a lot faster and easier. Anyone with recommendations? I'm sure there are people out there whole flash phones for a living. They are more or less the private people and i dont mind going thru one of them. So anyone suggestions would be great.

What is the reason behind the WSOD ? Has anyone come to a conclusion about it. I'm going to take it to tmobile tomorrow and see what happens then. If they do give me a QD i have nothing else to do then sell it and try to make as much profit as a i can. Which really sucks now because i really did love my n-gage and was planning on keeping it. I'll post up what happens when it happens for future references.

its a lack of phone memory to start up your ngage...thats what wsod is. The reason why u can only flash it is because u cant even turn on the phone anymore to access the folders so u can delete the files..

yea i seee.. i just read it off another site. I know this is a common problem with n-gages but is it with all the other S60 programs as well.

The hunt for an n-gage flasher begins now.

hehe...yeah thats why my ngage's phone memory always have 3+ mb in there (phone has 4 mb memory)

i dont mind really, if i can. but i m in canada...

yea i understand that but a good amount of flashers are in your area. maybe you can help me work something out because i know most places are local shops that flash the phone while you wait. I'm not too fimilar with people who do it thru the mail. Maybe those canada flashers have some friends in the states that do it. those things like that.

I dont really used up the 4mb's everything was installed on MMC. Only thing would be .. texts..

I'm considering going about the flash myself. And picking up a box and learning on my own. Does anyone have experience doing this? Or know any sites that might be willing to teach me how to. I figure it i'm able to do it then i can help out the Hofo community with simple and cheap upgrades and flashes on the nokia's and only nokia's. I wonder if anyone interested in this service.

Actually if you want to be picky, it's 3.4 MB

Well ur both right cus its 4mB total and 3.4mB is usable memory. 0.6mB is used by oem apps.

ineteresting stuff. Now how might one keep the internal memory used low. I mean all my programs were installed on to the mmc itself. All i really had was maybe 10 text messages. Which doesn't make any sense. I understand what causes a WSOD now but i dont understand how i got it.

Oh anyways, i got tmobile to get me a replacement refrib N-gage

I went to the store and what not. I saw an asian guy working there with a BT headset and the RIM phone. So i thought to myslef this should be easy since i'm asian as well. Then blah blah blah. asian guy turned out to be a huge jerk. He tried to charge the phone. Swaped out battery. Swapped out MMC. Another sim. the works. Nothing. Then he told me he can't file for an exchange because its not under warranty. Then he told me to call CS. I called CS. whole convo was 30 mins. 20+ on hold. but I got my replace N-gage coming in the mail in 3-5 days.

Just tonight, i was thinking, maybe i can sell my 6230, when the unthinkable happened....

my QD just started resetting itself, it makes it past the ngage animation, the nokia logo, eventually to the "standby" screen, 1 second later it goes white and resets. :-(

very unhappy!

the scary thing is i haven't installed any new programs in the last week, or done anything different. I'm going to leave it overnight with the battery out, hopefully it will "fix itself" somehow.

the worst part? i'm sure i'm gonna lose my cars in Asphalt

If it gets to the standby screen, it is not WSOD. With WSOD, the startup sequence will not get past the Nokia logo.

Have you made sure it is not doing this due to a low battery charge?

yea if you get a standby screen its not WSOD. this is the cycle i get when i turn it on. white screen, Nokia logo, backlights turns off couple seconds later then nokia logo appears w/o backlight turning on.

thats WSOD.

You know you can get the WSOD just by overload the internal memory with simple things as tons of text, MMS, saved calendar stuff, ringtones, call logs, small things like that. I mean normally 1 wont matter but if you count them all together as 1 file it should be well more then 5mb's of overall info.

i tried the * 3 and green button, but not sure when i have to hold it down...

it's just as bad as teh dreaded WSOD, at the moment, i only get 1 second to type numbers before the phone goes blank and restarts.

i can't find the receipt in my wallet but i'm hoping i put it into the box.. ( woohoo just found it in my wallet) :-)

if anyone can think of another way to get it working please tell me! (i'm suffering major withdrawals!)

There must be another sequence: Try pencil key, send and 3.

grr... i was suppose to get the orginal. But the i called tmobile back today and they told me i was denied because the phone was out of warranty. Go figure. Oh well.Now i have to flash my phone. Anyone know of anyone who flashes N-gage's to the newest or just any filmware to fix the WSOD. I would like someone here in the states aleast.

i PMed Chippery9 but he hasn't gotten my PM yet. And i'm sorta in a rush as well to get the n-gage back up and running.

yea he hasn't gotten around to check my PM to him. i figure he is really busy but he has been online daily as well. maybe he is replying to Pm's in the order they came in. none the less i PMed him once more :P

Hopefully i can get my n-gage running soon. i hate moto more and more now by the hours now. the more i use this v400 the more i hate it.

yea i never understood why i get moto's i like the way they look and thats about it. I hate everythign about them now more then before. grrr..... there has to be more nokia flashers here. i mean me this forum is huge. and there are a lot of us nokia people. I'm sure there has to be like aleast 10 flashers around.

I'm on the phone with nokia right now. I wonder how much they will charge me. I hate the fact that i'm calling in to get 1 thing done but they treat me like a *******, like i dont know anything about my phone.

yep wait in line. I think i might just jump the gun and hit up this one canadian store. They are charging me $10 for teh flash and $15 for the shipping back here thru xpresspost. I assume its a trust place because they are listed under one of people under the marketplaces under hofo.

From what i gather chip is like $10 plus w/e shipping. but i'm sure it wont be $15 and its faster since he is in TX instead of canada. I'll give him till the end of the week.

Press the ON button as soon as your phone starts hold down PENCIL key and "0" key simultaneously while your phone is booting....................

yea its about time i did it.

anyways. i'm a little bothered but not too worried. i send the phone on wensday with a note saying to email/PM/call me when he gets the phone so i know. tracking showed it got there around 1pm thursday. But i didn't get anything from chippery. He hasn't been online for days... so i figure he might just be too bus. Hopefully its on its way back to me and i have no reason to be alarmed

on a side note. Can you cash/return a money order if you have both copies. the check on the yellow recpiet thing for it, if its filled out in someone's name?

I got my phone back. with the money order but now that doesn't do me any good does it. having chippery's name on it. has anyone returned it or what not. i'll pay the reprint fee if that means i get back my $20 bucks

the package was never opened. i still didn't open it. someone just slaped a "refused" sticker on it and it was here. last night.

Orginal wraping is still on it. so i'm 100% sure its not flashed my MO is still on in it. Just since its titled to chip. how would i get money back.

As long as your name is on the money order you can cash it back in. But they will charge you a fee.
