BitPim, on a Mac, with Prolific (serial to USB) for LG 6070 (like vx6000)

Ok, so I've been working on this all day and am finally giving into posting as a Noob with a typical Noob question:

Has anyone been sucessful getting their LG phone to work with BitPim on their Mac?

I've got this error message:

"The port you are using is echoing data back, and is not valid for Brew data. Most likely you have selected the modem interface when you should be using the diagnostic interface."

Makes me think that it's connecting to the phone, but that there's some sort of channel setting that's wrong.

I'm pretty sure that the Mac driver is working and correct, because on the com port selection menu, I can unplug it, hit refresh and the serial-usb interface port disappears.

Then I thought maybe "interface" doesn't refer to the com port, but to something on the phone. However, then I realized that I could select not only any LG phone, but ANY PHONE and I would still get the same errors as soon as I tried to communicate with it.

So now I'm back at square one, is it the phone? is it the driver?

Anyone sucessfully use Bitpim on the mac with their LG phone that could get me pointers?

I have wasted the day on this without giving up, and now it's to the point where I don't even care about why I did it, I just want a return on my time investment. Help me I feel like Captain Ahab!

I hear 'ya man, I spent several hours playing around with my LG 6190 along with my PowerBook (OS X 10.3.8) before "giving in" and launching VPC 6 (Windows 98) and trying on that side. It wasn't smooth, but it did work. The goal, however, is to do it on the Macintosh side.

And tonight, I made it happen! A fellow Mac user on a TiVo forum suggested changing the phone model listed to the generic CDMA, which did work for me. I then tried some of the other models, and the 6000 series enables the most options when "sending" back to the phone. Also try unplugging the USB cable from your Mac before launching BitPim.

When you're attempting to connect, go into the log area, and check if you can see anything like this within the first few lines:

/dev/cu.usbserial: Opening port
/dev/cu.usbserial: Open of comm port suceeded

My last line shows this:

LG-VX6000: Now in brew mode

Good luck!

nothing nothing nothing. Setting it to "other cdma" just blanks out the upload options.

*sigh*

what do you mean about unplugging the usb cable before launching bitpim? I tried that, didn't seem to make much differance.

Don't give up, in the name of... the Finder?

Here's what I've got on my phone:

Menu/Settings/Setup/Data Setup

1. Data/Fax ----> OFF
2. Select Port ----> USB (try any port speed)

Plug the cable into your phone first, THEN your computer. Launch BitPim and see if that makes any difference. Hey, if I didn't give up, you certainly can't.

What type of USB cable are you using? I have the standard "Prolific USB-to-Serial" type which required me to download the latest drivers.
