This is the error I get:

530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first

i've tried 587 and 465 on my smtp settings and the use SSL box is checked.

I can check my pop3 incoming, so I know thats not a problem, just my smtp settings for Gmail.

Here are the Gmail settings with Versamail. I have no problem with gmail using Versamail. Hope this would solve your problem.

Incoming Mail Server
pop.gmail.com

Outgoing Mail Server
smtp.gmail.com

Click Next and Advance
Incoming Server Setting
Port Number 995
Check SSL

Click Next
Out going Server Setting
Port Number 465
Check SSL

Click Done

GOOD LUCK!

By the way, if this does not work. Try a soft reset and try again.

i found out that my ESMTP was not enabled!! stupid of me.
