downloading software issue...maybe

is there any way to download software w/o an sd card, even if i have to get it to my PC and then hotsync it?
if cant seem to get the 650 to act as a modem for my desktop... any way i can do this, i just got it and i want to make sure itll work where i need it too before i spend any more money...
