Firmware update tool cannot find S55 phone

I download the latest firmware update from Siemens for my S55, ran it, but it cannot find the phone.
When I run the Siemens Data Suite it has no problems communicating with it so I know that I have it correctly (physically) connected. I am connecting to port COM1.

to use siemens update tools you need to be able to turn the charging capability of the cable off... a lot of the non siemens cables DO NOT have this feature, but you can get around it using other tools such as Freia... not sure how that works as I have only upgraded firmware using official siemens cables
