Yet Another Tm 150 question thread

So the TM 150 plays SMAF files and you can convert Wav to SMAF, right?

So if you got a 512 mb sd card could you in theory put a CD onto the card (though it would play mono). For example, would the TM 150 be able to play Usher's newest CD if it were under 512 mb? Or is there a limit to the size of the files you can play?

On another question....

If I learned JAVA and got all the compilers could I make a decent game for the phone since it's options are limited for games right now?

My brother knows java and I found a tutorial on how to make java games for mobile phones, is this realistic or would it be too time consuming? I have lots of free time.

Well, sorry to disappoint you.
By what I read and tried for the ringtone part, TM-150 only accept mono SMF file under about 50kb for the moment.
Hope there's new firmware available soon for taking off the size limit of the SMF and video recording and capable to uploade games through SD card. And also hope we can do OTA upgrade at that time. Sigh~

thanks for your reply, i have yet to recieve my phone in the mail yet so I am no expert.

My problem is that when you read the features on the Sharp TMN 150 it all seems great but then i read the asterisks here in this forum and I think it's false advertising!

- it has a video recorder.....but it only records 15 seconds and only plays back a small amount (makes no sense since it takes SD cards)

- it can play smaf files......but there is a limit to that too, making the smaf player almost useless aside from short ring tones, which you most likely have to make yourself since smaf files seem to be hard to find.

- it can play java games......but not most of them.....only a few on www.midlet.org

- it can take sd cards......but there's almost nothing worth putting on them, who is gonna take 512 mb worth of pictures? especially when you can just send them to my album in t-mobiles personal pages and store them there.

I really hope there is some new software to rid the phone of these pointless limits.

YEah, i tried converted to smaf from wav from mp3 and it worked great but it only accept below 50kb otherwise the file gets fuzzed out and it won't be able to play. im looking forward to a new firmware that will take off that limit because i can only play about 10seconds of tones that i converted myself.

Well, I am also a new TM-150 owner and this is what I think.

First, I am not talktive, I sign up a basic plan from T-Mobile. And since the most important thing of mobile phone for me is "phone" part, my minimun satisfaction of a mobile phone is the phone functions work properly. Maybe once a while when I have some free time, I'll try to write my personal review of TM-150 to share.

Although it's not perfect (It's hard to find a perfect thing, isn't it?), I have no complaint and love this phone but have improvement wish list for it.

Ok, back to your reply.

I am not sure if it limited by the hardware or not. Most of your list items about "false advertising" might be true.

So far the longest video recording time I experienced is ... 10 seconds.
= =|||

The SMAF file limitation I experienced has been mentioned in a thread I opened here also --- 15 seconds, mono, 8000Hz sample rate.

Since I have no USB data cable and GPRS service, I couldn't even put any game in my handset yet. But what I read is, you can play a lot of game, but with the wrong screen size. I'll wait to see once I got a USB data cable.

For the SD card capability and picture taking/storage thing, I take it as a pro instead of a con. Good thing is, you don't need to buy RS-MMC or mini-SD like Samsung or others which is more expensive and usually can not use on your digital camera. Also, as an 1-MP camera phone, it's still not a bad substitution if you don't have a DC on hand.

What I worry about is, maybe the hardware/chipset do have limitation make Sharp set all these size limits. When you read/write files from/to the 32MB SD card comes together with the phone later, you will know how ... ... slow it is. So, I suspect if this phone capable to save those realtime recording data to the SD card with a big size. I also suspect if Sharp let us read large-sized file, will the system memory enough or how long will that take.

I hope they will come out a very best version firmware for us to enjoy these versatile functions and learn what can't be improved on this handset and make a closed-to-perfect phone next time.

I have no doubt it is a good phone, and I am sure I will love it.

I just had dreams of loading some Depeche Mode cd's onto a 512 mb card.

Is there a place to download videoclips for the phone via a wap site?

My friend has cingular and has a nokia with edge and he can download NBA highlights.

My other friend has Sprint PCS and a sanyo videophone and he can watch mobile tv, the picture sucks and it's blocky but the sound quality is good and overall it seemed cool.

If there is a way to throw mp4 clips onto a wap site, I'd be willing to throw some NBA highlights or something as long as I don't get sued.

Basically the point of this thread is that I think there may be some cool things to do with the phone if we put our heads together. I think I can learn to make a cool NBA or MLS Soccer java game that fits the screen if I put some effort into it. Like I said, I have lots of free time. Also I read about a Java MP3 player.

My job is sitting around and doing almost nothing so my phone is my entertainment hub. I have a Motorola V300 with some cool games (yao ming basketball is cool, cbs baseball is awesome, pac man is classic) but this TM150 will be limited in terms of games. I was hoping the audio and video would make up for the lack of games but now I'm not so sure.
