First off, so I don't get flamed Yes I have searched
I Have Tried EVERYTHING to get i860 ringtones on my phone
I got my phone about 5 days ago
I have tried using Adobe Audition (Cool Edit) coverting to 32 and 48 at all the right formats
I have tried using dpPowerAmp coverting to 32 and 48 at all the right formats
I've triend coverting them to wavs first then back to mp3 as stated by a forum member who said that worked for him
I've shortened mp3 names to only 5 letters
I've tried loading these specific song clips I want in wav format
I've tried other mp3/wav converters
I have the latest WebJal installed
I've downloaded mp3 ringtones from NextelNoob.com and I can get them on my phone fine!!! I've checked the formats of theirs with mine, and they are exactly the same!
ALL I KEEP GETTING IS THE GENERAL COMMUNICATIONS ERROR
I never had a problem loading these into my i730, what's the deal???
I know my posting is low because I usually just browse the forums and fine everything I need, but I cannot figure this out
Does anyone know how to help me, I can't take it. AHHHH
Has NEXTEL updated their newer i860's or something where we can't do this or what???
PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks to anyone who can help me.

There could be several possible solutions to your problem..... First off, if you use DbpowerAmp to convert the files make sure that you uncheck the option to preserve ID Tags ( that caused some problems for me ) also make sure that the ringtones are not too long ( 30- 40 is ok but not optimal) and make sure that the file isn't too large because that can also cause the "General Comm. Error"...... Let me know if any of this works out for you.... What i'm goin to do is find a tutorial for you so you can compare what you have/know to what the tutorial says and hopefully you will find out exactly whats happening....

Hey Skip, thanks for the reply, but I have already tried that with dbPowerAmp. I have tried like every combination between that program and adobe audition.
As far as the size, none of the clips I'm using go over 85kb which I know is ok because the ones I DID get to load on were both like 89kb
Thanks for doing some searching for me though, I appreciate it. I can't be the only one out there with this problem, anyone else having this?

When you convert the tone do you name it something new or save it over the original? It won't work if you do "Save" and overwrite the original. Why don't you post one that does not work so we can look at it to see what the problem is.

I've tried saving over the top of and saving as a new name. Both didn't work. I'll upload one now.

EDIT: I just tried to upload one but it says it's too big. I have zipped it but can only get it down to 59kb, any other solutions for posting it up, I might be able to throw it on my server.

Haven't had one say too big on the i860 yet but....normally when I get in a hurry I forget to sent back through the dbpoweramp after cliping in sound recorder. Are you remembering to send it through twice? This causes a communication error

well that's one i haven't tried...
basically I cut the song and THEN covert it.
I will try converting first, then clipping, and then converting again and see what that does. I'll let you know.
Thanks

OH MY!!!
I finally got it to work
what i did was followed the directions on that tutorial you just posted, and then added an extra step at the end where I convert it back to mp3 at 32k.
Maybe it's because I had the older version of dbpoweramp before you had to pay for it. Maybe editting it with the Windows Sound Recorder is what did the trick. Whatever it was, it worked!
Thanks for the help guys!
