Sanyo 5600--mounting as read-only filesystem

I am connecting my 5600 to my PowerBook running 10.3.8 and the phone is mounting as a "read-only filesystem". I've tried the command "mount -u rw /Volumes/Untitled" but I receive an "operation not premitted" error.
Has anyone been able to successfully mount their 5600 to an OSX system (or Linux for that matter) and make changes to the data on the miniSD card? FWIW, I can mount the phone as a rw volume on my Windows machine.
