I couldn't let my Sharp-TM200 go.....

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: [IFC]Area51

so i bought the phone again after returning it because the speakerphone is kinda buggy " callers here and echo of themselve " and hopefully theres a fix for it.

Look at these pictures, all i can say is WOW!!!, i resized the images from 2mp and 1mp to fit here.

Grace building across from Briantpark NYC.

Seeing some of the skyline from Centralpark skating rink.

Buildings from centralpark skating rink.

A picture of myself inside my car, remember...i'm still messing around with light conditions and settings.

I'm in love with my TM-200 NOW, i can't believe i returned it for the stupid speakerphone issue but i reallly do hope i find a fix for it.

I took this pic today, the sharpness of the tower actually shocked me. The pics get a little fuzzy around the edges but overall the camera on this phone is great

wow!!! is the 902 camera and the tm200 camera similar or does the 902 camera blow the tm200 camera away... the M900 is starting to bore me and piss me off and i want to know if the tm200 is a good phone to replace it with. i'm asking you because you seem like the one of the most knowledgeable hofo members.

what do you think. should i get rid of the M900 for a tm200. plus the tm200 is a very nice looking phone...-

Yes, without doubt Tm200 is better than M900. As far as the difference in 902 and Tm200 is concerned, 902 has autofocus and 2x OPTICAL zoom. Tm200 only has autofocus. Other than that, I think that both are about the same.

Posted by: [IFC]Area51

I'm not gonna be selfish and say that the M900 sux because i never even used the phone but i was deciding between the tm200 and m900 and i simply went with the tm200 because of the looks and ofcourse the specs.

As for the 902, is kind of pricy for my budget right now, it looks like a great phone but the style of it is not my taste but who knows...if the price go down then the style might grow on me, hehe.

As far as the camera of the tm200, i have to get a clear day shot because it has been raining here in NYC and been kinda foggy, so i need a nice bright day like that 902 shot posted by braindead5400 " great shot BTW ".

What limit is video recording on the tm200? On the m900 you can record up to ten minutes. And how's the mp3 player? I really want to do some research before i buy. I don't wanna rush and buy a so so product this time.

Also. How is wap and mms? On my m900 wap works fine but it won't let me access the t zones home page for some reason.

Posted by: braindead5400

I've never used the TM200 so I cannot comment on its performance over the M900. The camera is a true 2 megapixel with auto focus, which is better than the interpolated 1.3 of the m900. It also has bluetooth (which is restricted, but its there). Dimensions wise, its shorter than the M900 but a little wider and a little thicker. Battery life is rated better on the M900. The TM200 uses sd cards opposed to the minisd of the M900, I prefer sd because you can get larger cards.

I'm comparing them solely on the specs, I don't know how the TM200 actually performs.

Posted by: Box215

Anymore pics from the TM200? Anyone?

Posted by: action-packed

i let my TM200 go and ain't never looked back. the pics were ok but no what i expected out of a 2mp camera.

the NEC N840 is a MUCH better phone. and the pic quality is AMAZING. and it is MUCH more customizable than the TM200. i'm still amazed at how the pics blow away the TM200.

the LED light can flash different colors. and video id's are cool as hell. the browser is seems faster than the TM200. you can set pics, mp3's and the camera option to the main wallpaper as "desktop icons".

i never really thought CMOS sensors can be better than CCD until now...

Posted by: Box215

Really? Its that much better of a phone? Im dying to have a nice big flip phone again. Do you think you could post some pics from the N840?

Posted by: BMWFilms

there's a thread in other manufacturers with one pic from the N840 and it looks sweet

CMOS can be just as good as ccd in the proper conditions. Try comparing the two in low light conditions and you may see the difference between the two

well when i use my N840 indoors (or other lowlight conditions) it blows away the sharp tm200 (ESPECIALLY in darkness mode). the cmos camera on the n840 blows away every ccd camera i've ever used (tm150, tm200, mitsu m900).

like i said, i'm glad i got rid of the tm200. i wanted that phone so bad at one point and it disappointed me when i finally got it. the n840 has to be the best 2MP camera on the market.

for you? suuuuure!

I was once a huge Sharp fan myself.. but the 902 just doesn't do this..

resized to 800x600

SIDE-BY=SIDE comparison

NEC - n840 2.0mp (contrast @ +1, i can't find the original auto-mode)

Minolta Dimage Z1 3.2mp (full auto)

more by n840 (no-touchups, only censored to protect the innocent )

HER ride is pretty bad-***.

I used my gx32 until the cows came home, but the user-interface was crap, wap/mms/sms all work on the n840 under rogers. The screen and the pics are great, its a gx32 screen quality, but the gx32 is a little brighter. And there is no lag in using the phone. its very fast to execute keystrokes and display pictures from memory - one thing that my gx32 was terrible at. 4 picture preview in that horizontal bar thing

sharp gx32
1. picture 1
2. picture 2
3. picture 3

and each pic took 5 seconds to load just the preview.

n840

1 - 2 - 3
4 - 5 - 6
7 - 8 - 9

9 picture preview grid and each pic takes a fraction of a second to load into the preview pane.

Posted by: braindead5400

My only gripe about the N840 is the amount of noise that appears on solid colors in photos. Its not overly apparent because the sharp ness of the photo kinda hides it, but its there.

I'm surprised to hear that you think the N840 performs well in the dark, you're one of the first people I've heard say that. CMOS cameras aren't as sensitive to light and therefor are usually, if not always, crap in the dark. CCD usually comes out on top here.

Maybe NEC has implemented some really really good night mode or something, care to post some examples?

braindead, can you post up your input on the following?

OK, comparitively speaking, both phones are a few steps away from the User Interfaces of the now legendary Sony Erricson, however I have used a sharp GX32 and maybe some v902sh owners can chime in on this one. The things about sharp that annoyed the crap out of me were.

LONG lagging picture preview. If i wanted to show my friends my picture album, it would only load 3 pictures at a time and each one takes at least 5-8 seconds to load off the sd card as just a PREVIEW thumbnail.
the n840 allows for a 3x3, 9 picture preview grid and the pics take fractions of a second to load.

does the 902 support a grid preview?

Picture saving time is 4-5 seconds on full 2mp. Picture savingtime was at least 8-10 seconds on the gx32 with was only saving 1mp. picture saving time on the n840 @ 1mp is 2-2.5 seconds.

how long is the saving time on the 902?

Sharp's ***-backwards user interface. I stuck it out with my gx32 for a LONG time, but everyday annoyances were just killer. Like adding a number to an existing entry in your phone book was not a simple enter+add process.

T9 input on the gx32 was an afterthought. the t9 predictive entry on the n840 is the best i have used so far. saves all new words, will even save mixed alphanumeric words (n840, L8R, s710a), and will recall those words as you are typing them and auto complete if necessary. There is a spelling mode and you can even highlight, copy and paste selections or entire messages... I am guessing this level of predictive input is also available in chinese mode as well.

I want to know what the mp3 player is like on the v902sh. the n840 allows for a 30 song playlist, where u can change up the order of the songs etc. if the phone is closed, the remote will allow you to skip to the next song by holding down the action button on the remote. Its quite handy to use on an everyday basis, as i use it in the gym daily and it works well.

video is capped on the n840 to 300kb.. but then the n840 allows for video caller ID... so you can take a vid of your hot friend and have her play back everytime she calls you.

Sharp handsets are great quality, but the software they use is just a letdown. Comparing the user interface alone to the n840, and it feels like the v902sh was made a year ago. Compared to a s710a or even z500 and the 902sh feels like it was made 3 years ago. the screen is massive 2.4" but it totally feels like it was not well thoughtout if i were using it on a day to day basis.

n840 has 850mhz.

any 902 user experiences would be great.

adobe photoshop is pretty large to email. ~400megs and it would be hmm against the long arm of the law.

i am sure there are image resizers on the net, google it.

The preview lag kinda sucks on the 902

Not only does it NOT support grid preview, but you can't view your pics full screen on the phone, you have to look at a tiny pic and then try and zoom in, which gets kinda slow the more you zoom

I'm one of the lucky ones with picture saving, it only takes a couple of seconds, but some people complain of MUCH longer times

The UI doesn't bother me that much, but I definately think its too boring. It definately needs something to liven it up.

T9 isn't a problem for me on the 902, I love it

I've never used a playlist with the 902, but the mp3 player itself it great. The sound quality is rivals a dedicated mp3 player and you can use your own headphones.

As far as I know, there isn't a video cap on the 902. The SD video is great and you can use regular 3gp movies as ring videos (they have to be stored on the phone, not the card).

I definately agree that the UI is lacking in sharp phones, they REALLY need to improve upon that because its one of the main things that lacking in the 902.

No 850 in the 902, but I don't need it

One more thing that annoys me, the screen delay. The screen doesn't come on as soon as you open the phone, there is same lag and since I open my phone fast, I'm often greeted with a dark and blank screen.

Posted by: Aldiggi

Which phone do you find has better camera quality? Your 902 or DV1?

Those pics don't accurately show the capability of the camera in the DV1, if the DV1 wasn't so bad in other areas, I'd probably have one.

If you base it off those pics, the 902 is better, but I've seen pics that are WAY better from the DV1

braindead, thanks much for your feedback.

i totally thought they would have fixed that on the 902. its a pain in the arse when im trying to show places i had been to my friends and a lot of the time is spent waiting. even the nokias with horrid cameras supported a grid preview which i was blown away when i had first seen it (when i had an awesome camera on my gx32 but horrible previews)

the ui on the nec isn't great either, but its certainly more logical in some places, not so much in others...

the headphone adapter mic/headset piece is totally compatible between the 2 phones, so i nod to that.

i had the same thing with my gx32, it would come on in less than a second, however.
