Mpx220 Ext Lcd questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: thehirsches

I have bounced around and searched a ton of forums for a few answers.

1. How can I increase the time before the Ext fades to black? (My wife's 550 always shows thge time and date, just not lit up.)

2. How can I get "Photo Contacts" to show images on the Ext screen? (If this program can't, is there one that can use the ext screen?)

Thanks.

2. Built-in feature can already show pictures on the external LCD. Try associating a picture to a contact using built-in feature and see if it works.

What is the built in feature called and how do I get to it?

I looked in the contacts and did not see anywhere to associate photos.

After you take a picture with the camera, you can choose to associate the picture with a contact. It's one of the options under the menu.

Not a problem!

But, back to the other question. Is it possible to keep the External LCD on longer? I'm used to my V600 which allowed oyu to see the time, etc. on the outside without having to open it up.

I have not been able to get Photo Contacts to display on the ext LCD, only the internal screen. I didn't think it was possible for it to use the ext LCD. I have pics associated with several of my contacts but Photo Contacts only shows the pic on the internal screen.
If it can use the ext LCD how do you get it to do that?

Increase the value in the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\control panel\backlight\CMCS_SLCDTimeout

I believe it is in milliseconds (60000 for 60 seconds). You will have to reboot the phone after changing it for it to take effect.

Thanks. I wasn't sure what that setting was for, but mine was set at 6000, not 60,000. I changed it to 120,000 and testing it now. It seems to be working, however, I'd prefer to be able to set it to "0" or something like that to keep it on all the time. Guess I can't have everything I want. It's funny though - every picture you see on the web of this phone has the external window on, which is how I think it should be anyway...

Thanks agian for the response and help.

Interesting... I have several contacts with pictures associated, and the picture shows up on the external LCD when they call. As soon as I open the phone, the picture is then displayed on the internal screen.

Dunno why you're having problems, but some digging here (and on other boards) says that some folks had the same issue. However, most of them had problems with the MPx200, not the 220. I've not had much luck with Jeyo Personalizer, but others said that fixed their problems (www.jeyo.com).

Maybe I should have been more specific before. The built in photo id app works on the external LCD. I have been using Photo Contacts by PocketX lately though. That is the app that I was referring to. I cannot seem to get that app to use the external LCD.

Anyone experiencing the same thing with the PocketX app?

Hi Matt,

Photo Contacts currently does not support the small external screen on the
mpx220. You will see a large photo of the caller on the main screen when
the
phone rings. You can set up your phone not to automatically answer the call
when you open the flip - go to START>Settings to do this.

Lisa

Subject: Photo Contacts 2.0 on MPX220

I recently bought the Photo Contacts software and have a question. Is
there a way to have the photo contact appear on the external screen of the
phone?

As it is, I see the name and number, but when I open the phone it connects.
(I have the open phone to connect option chosen.) I only see the photo for
a second.

Thanks.

I noticed that both the internal & external screens seem to be on the same backlight control. If you look at the phone real closely in a dark room, when you close it, the internal backlight doesnt go off until the same time the external does. Any anytime you push the button to see the external display (without opening), the internal comes on too. Im assuming thats why the default delays for backlights are so low on this phone. I'm sure it draws alot more power to run that internal screen than just the external. Id be interested to hear how much the battery life suffers when you up the timeout value in the registry.

After coming from a T720, I was used to having an external screen that was always on (unbacklit) and I have to admiit that I was a little disappointed with the fact that the MPx220 doesnt work the same. But it didnt take long to get used to just pushing the volume button to see the display. Its really not any more effort to push the button when you pick it up to look at it.
