MPx220 vs. Razr

Well, basically, i have the 220 and love it. but i've found that i like the physical design of the razr a lot more (and for obvious reasons), and i really dont take advantage of all the 220 features. my issue is - is the UI as dreadful as people say with the Razr. i havent had experience with motorola phones in the past, as i've been a big SE fan, but i love that **** razr. any opinions or comments would be appreciated

Razr looks nice but it doesn't do video recording (to my knowledge) and the internal memory is low compared to the mpx220.
Razr is basically a v600 is a cool style body. For the price I went with Mpx220, b/c the Razr is just too overpriced for me.

Just my 2 pennies

Razor is nice to some i guess, its a little to wide for me, and it just dont compare to mpx220 for features, i mean u lose out on a video player dvd player, mp3 player, just so much to mention plus i think the mpx 220 is a pretty sharp looking phone.

theres no doubt id be losing video, but i thought that the razr can play mp3s.......also, i think that the screen and thinness outweigh the width, so thats not an issue to me

mp3 ringtones not full songs, this thing is like an ipod sound is amazing

The razr is a totally different phone. The razr is a multimedia phone with a camera and mp3 playback and other good stuff. On the other had the MPx 220 is a Smartphone, it can run programs and there are 1000's of them, It can sync with outlook even though you can do it with MPT its not as good as ActiveSync. The MPx 220 has more memory, a way faster processor the fastest on a phone so far. But if you don't need all the extras the MPx 220 has then a razr would be a good choice for you......just my 2 cents.

I agree with u omega, but i just cant see myself ever going back to a phone with less capabilties now .

yeah, i mean, it is kinda big to lose the features, but on the otherhand, my firmware is the .325, and while i know i can upgrade, the principle of having to deal w/ faulty software and a sub-par speaker phone is kind of disheartening...i love both phones, but yeah, dont really need the features......maybe ill just have both?

i understand your sentiments, i have the .343 firmware from at&t and its been great, speakerphone is a little soft and so are mp3s, but to be honest all the phones i had with speaker unless in a quite room were all soft, i had v600, nokia, 6620, nokia 6200, v505,v551 and although they were a little louder they really werent anything to rave about, just go with what u think u want most or maybe wait it out till the new razr the one with the 1.3 camra and expandable memory v1150 i think.

thanks for the help folks

I sold my RAZR and bought an MPX220- I loved the style and looks of the RAZR, but that's all it had. The memory was always full; I probably would have kept it had Motorola given some thought and added more memory. The MPX220 is way better, even if you don't use all of the extra features. At least they're there.

what did you fill up the memory with? contacts, pictures, apps....just curious so i can gauge the necessity of excess memory

Posted by: Jay Schmay

Pictures, MP3 ringtones (most MP3 ringtones are around 150K or so), stuff that Motorola won't let you delete . You wouldn't think it would, but the memory actually fills up rather quickly.

The best thing the MPx 220 can do or any Smartphone is play DVD's!! I have 2 full DVD's on my miniSD and even though the screen isn't that big its great to have when your stuck somewhere and you got to kill time the razr couldn't hope to do that! It doens't have the memory or the processing power to do it.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7100/3.8.0 UP.Link/1.1)

I had both phones at the same time and I loved using both of them. I needed the mpx220 because of how well it would synchronize with outlook. I need to have my notes and contacts with me all day for work. The phone book is amazing. I have 400 contacts and I could always find a contact with a few key presses. But after using the razr for a month I have to say that I really enjoyed using it as a phone. The phone book sucks, but the clarity, signal strength, and volume were great. I really miss the razr

What software are you using to compress the DVD to fit on the phone? I have a 512mb card so I think I should be able to fit one or two on there.

I've found PocketDivxEncoder to work perfectly with any DVD files i want to put on my phone.

As for the RAZR vs. MPx220 debate, I think it just boils down to the age-old argument of Style vs. Substance. I like playing movies and tv shows on my phone, using it as an MP3/WMA player, and finding places with programs such as PocketStreets. Personally I think the RAZR is too wide...yeah, yeah, yeah it's thin...about the same thickness when folded up as my old Nokia 8890(which i still think is the best looking phone that Nokia has ever put out)...so not as thin as i originally thought it was going to be. It's like what one of my friends used to say, no matter how much money you put into tuning a Honda Civic...in the end, it's still a Civic. So if the V600 with a body kit floats your boat... Just my 2cents!

but i drive a civic......

If you want a gorgeous, but brainless arm candy........

Posted by: klapmo

well to be honest, its got all the brains it needs for me......it holds phone numbers, it calls them too (a plus in my book), has a fantastic screen, and is hotter than any other phone out

Then go for it. Frankly, if Cing were to do away for some obscure reason with the smartphones (and PDA phones are just toooo big), I would go to the Rzr. I need at least 1000 name phonebook...and darn, it IS good looking......
