MPx220 seriously awful call quality

Hello..

I have tmobile in seattle and an unbranded mpx220. Recently most of the calls i make and receive have sounded really scratchy and bad. The callers tell me i either sound like im on the moon or they can hear everything in the background going on. I also get next to no call reception in my house but i hear thats a common thing with some cell phones.

Is there anything im missing? Any ideas? This is an unbranded non-cingular phone im using with a tmobile sim card.

thanks

Mike

What firmware does your Mpx220 have? I have .343 AT&T and I have no problems at all, I used MP3 gain to make my mp3's play louder and my call volume is loud and I can hear the people on the other end. I know other people have had problems but my mpx220 is a good one.

Being unbranded its 1.10 from the manufacturer

when i tried to run the software update from the moto site it said i had the latest.

Turning it off and on once a day seems to help call quality.

Check on the software again. It sounds like it needs to be updated. Make sure you have the most recent update, and it should get better.

My Cingular branded MPX220 with 1.30 firmware has great call volume and quality on my end. However, people on other end say that the first parts of my words are too loud and distorted and softer parts of words are soft and muffled. Doesn't seem to differ as signal strength changes during calls.

Also, when I'm wearing my Moto HS-810 bluetooth headset and press the button to answer a call, the caller usually yells because they got a LOUD screeching sound that hurt their ear!

Anyone else having these types of issues with MPx220 & HS-810?? I've tried searching forums but it's not easy to pin down.

So far the MPx220 is a great replacement for my iPAQ, but it's really bad as a cell phone - DUHHH!

After finding the clear plastic piece covering my handset (thanks to HoFo forums!) and changing my MPx220's profile to 'outdoors', my incoming call volume is adequate. And I've never had any complaints about my outgoing call quality. I have noticed the past few days that my voice is echoing faintly back to me; that happens occasionally no matter what phone or service you use, but it's been on every call I've made or received since Monday. I'm going to reboot and see if that makes a difference.

No problems with my HS-820 headset that you've mentioned, other than my own ham-fisted tendency to press the button too long or too short...

My reception is much better than when I had T-Mo also. All in all, I've got only minor complaints about my MPx220.
