The new version of BitPim is out and is compatible with the VX8000, just thought I'd let you all know. It's a development release, so It's not full and I'm sure there's bugs, but now you can do more than screw around with the file system. My VX8000 is supposed to come tomorrow so this is good timing.

Does this mean that we don't have to go through that whole crazy process (in the tutorial) to add ringtones and mp3s and that we can just upload them directly to the right place with bitpim?

For uploading Ringtones and wallpapers yes. But for up loading tunes no, you will still have to use the filesystem method.

I waited about 15 minutes, so far all I get is: (under the LOG tab)

In control panel (under modems) it shows this connection to be on com3.

Am I at least on the right track?

Try selecting Auto for Your com port. To see if that works for you like it did me.

Thanks efski, got it now, ended up on COM5. Now to figure out how to upload.

i just got the cable and i dont know where to start? do i have to do something to the phone in the settings or do i just plug and go

You might have to open your PC connection in the phone. Go to tools....call settings.....Data settings....PC connection. Now make sure your USB and RS-232c(com Port)s are open and set. For the rs-232 port select 115200 for your port speed.
