V220 Increase Volume (gain table?)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have successfully increased the volume on my v551 through the gain_table file, and my husband wants to do the same with his v220, but after reading through tons of posts on here, I am coming to the conclusion that maybe that's just not possible with the v220. Has anyone found a way to increase the speaker volume on the v220?

I also tried some OPCODES I found on a different forum that were supposed to increase the volume on motorola phones, but those result in a message saying "Error: 3" on both my v551 and his v220.

I've seen people requesting a replacement gain_table for their v220, but I've read some posts saying the v220 doesn't even have the gain_table file to begin with. Can someone please set that straight for me? I'd like to know before I spend the money on a data cable only to find out I can't do it in the first place, especially if someone else out there knows already.

Thanks, you all rule!

the v220 does have a gain_table.bin file, but I've tried adjusting all the offsets named in various places throughout this forum, and none seem to have any impact on any of the volumes they're supposed to.

*shrugs*

Thanks for the insight. I'm just waiting to see because if it can't be done, there's little point in wasting my time with getting the data cable just to go through what everyone else already has. LOL! My husband doesn't seem to care much about ringtones or wallpapers, so I really have no need for that particular cable otherwise.

Anyone else have any luck or info? I even called Motorola and they say it can't be done, but you never can tell if these people are really telling you the truth or just telling you that because they don't want to be held responsible if you mess up your phone. They also told me there was not a gain table file for the v220, and you've already blown that response out of the water for me. LOL!!! I'm still not convinced that it can't be done, but of course, sometimes that is simply the answer.

i wasnt able to adjust the volume with the gain_table file but theres a program called motokit that does adjust the volume for u with extreme ease. http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=585278 go there to find the link to download the program. also like yt stated i was able to adjust the volume, i didnt really notice that much of a difference. but im the hard hearing type of guy who like everything loud!! let me know if you have any prob working with the program. as for finding a inexpensive cable for the 220 radio shack has it for 20 bucks out the door here in cali and i see it on ebay all the time for as cheap as 7 bucks shipped but you have to wait to get it. have fun

p.s. make sure on the cable you buy its a standard usb on one side (pc) and a mini usb "b" on the other(phone). mini usb "a" wont work.

Great, thanks!! My husband is hard of hearing too, the years of military and shooting guns sometimes without proper ear protection have caught up with him. Any little bit will help, I just wish I'd known about the ability to change the volume settings in some of the phones (apparently, v300 and up) before his one month trial was up on the phone. Oh well, he likes it just fine, and it works okay, it would just be helpful if it were a little louder. I will definitely check this out and see. I'll probably get a cable from eBay, I got mine in just a few days and the wait was worth saving a little money.

I got a nice retractable USB cable from Radio Shack for my v220... 12 bucks, no waiting, works great

Ooh, that's cheap for a non-eBay cable. All of the ones I've looked for at RS have been around $20. I'd do the $12 just to have it instantly! Thanks a bunch!

If anyone goes to radio shack and see this cable (FutureDial):

What ever you do DON'T BUY IT!!, only the retractable one "yt" suggests.
This cable has had a lot of problems with Motorola phones. There are alot of threads about this cable not working or only half working. IMO. OEM is the best.

Just my $0.02

I have also tried adjusting the gaintable, but not much difference is heard. What you can do is amplify the ringtone, be it midi or mp3, and then put it back on the phone to make it ring louder. That's worked for me so far. Just follow Ninetoez guide to making ringers for your phone. If you want to make the speaker louder when using the speakerphone function, then I wouldn't be able to help you there.

As for the mini usb cable to connect to the phone.... you can get those with digital cameras and flash card readers. My cable came with my card reader that I got from Microcenter for 9 bucks. I use it for the flash cards and for my v220. I think that all you need is a cable that will fit the socket, but I've read that there are some cables that don't seem to work with the phone.

for all you people wanting data cables just buy the pelican cable for ps2. it's only 5 bucks at wal-mart and works like a charm.

How do you increase the ringtone volume of the v551 beyond its existing programmed range?
