My Guide to Making Voice Ringtones for TM150

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Alright here is what you do... trust me it works. This may seem like a huge long complicated process just to make a ringtone, but trust me, once you figure it out for yourself, it is extremely easy. All of these steps, from start to finish, take me about 60 seconds.

1.First off, if you want short mp3 clips of any song you can think of, go to walmart.com, click on music. Find your cd you are looking for, and then scroll down and at the bottom they have a 30 second mp3 clip of each song.

2.save the .mp3 clip to your computer.

3.using any old mp3-->wav converter (i found mine on mp3fe.com), convert the file to .wav. now you have a .wav file to work with.

4.Since the Sharp TM150 only takes 50kb or less ringtons, you'll need to make it shorter than 30 seconds or else it will be too big. Here's how you do that:

5.Download "FlexMusic" wave editor (just google it and you'll find it). Once you have that installed, open it up and click open file and find the .wav file you have saved.

6. (It may seem a little confusin at first looking at the program, but its actually really simple.) I'll post a picture below to show you basically what you need to do.

7. In between the red arrows is the section of the .wav file that you want to use for your ringtone. To select it like I have in the picture, simply click anywhere during the song, drag to the right, and click again where you want your ringtone to end.

8. Now that you have selected the part of the file that you want as your ringtone, you’ll need to trim the rest of the file out. To do this, simply click the button that the blue arrow points to in my picture.

9. Now your .wav file is trimmed to just the section you want for your ringtone.

10. The last thing you’ll do with this program is to look near the bottom where it says “format bits” and (in my picture) it says 8 bits. If this is not already set on 8 bits, right click on the number, and chose “8 Bits”. This way, you’ll keep the file size small and under 50kb.

11. Go to the top, click save, and overwrite your original .wav file. Alright, now you have a .wav file that is exactly what you want your ringtone to sound like.

12. Using the Yamaha SMAF converter (google it or look through the other threads to find the site), simply drag the .wav file into the converter, and it outputs the file as a .mmf.

13. Alright, now just pop your SD card into your SD card reader (if you have this phone and you don’t have an SD card reader yet, I recommend it, its worth the trouble for like $10). Put the .mmf file into the “SOUNDS” folder onto the card. Pop it back into your phone…

14. Go to MenuMy ContentsSoundsMy SoundsOptionsSwitch to Card Data And then play your file! Bam!

Master these steps and you’ll be converting awesome ringtones from pretty much any mp3 you want! If you find the volume to be too soft/loud, you can try using the SMAF converter that has the volume option in it (look in the forum for this file too, I cant remember where I got it)

Lastly, if you guys cant find the right websites for the converters used to do all these steps, just instant message me on AIM at mmj12345 and I’d be glad to send you the file myself! Good Luck!

are you keeping the file under 50kb?

Posted by: JustdoNIKES

yea, i just realized that and edited it already.
now, how do you make the volume louder?

Posted by: braindead5400

There is a program called SMAF Converter that will convert wav files into MMF tones. It allows to to enhance the volume as well as cut the bass track so the tone sounds better. Thats the method I use and they sound great on my 902

Posted by: JustdoNIKES

ok, i searched smaf converter on google and clicked on the first one. my question is, which application do i download? theres like 10 of them.

Posted by: braindead5400

look here

Just make sure you cut the bass track or it will sound bad. I set the volume enhance to 10, but it may only work on the 902 because of the stereo speakers. Play around with the volume enhance and see what works best for your phone

Posted by: JustdoNIKES

um. yea, it doesnt work for me.

Posted by: mmj12345

instant message me at mmj12345 and ill send you the SMAF converter or whatever. is that what you meant when you say it doesnt work, or does the ringtone still not work?

the ringtone works but im trying to make the volume louder. i tried what braindead5400 said, but when i open the program, it says im missing some components or whatever.

Posted by: braindead5400

did you unzip the file first?

Posted by: SimSin13

Just created first mmf ringtone sounds great nice and loud (voice ringtone that is)
this isnt an mp3 but as close to it as well get.. so im not going to complain!

Also wanted to compare with everyone how long is your mmf file in the end?

I got 11 seconds... so kinda short...

Posted by: braindead5400

Mine are 30sec long since I have my phone set to ring for almost that long. (I don't have the 50kb restriction on my phone)

Posted by: JustdoNIKES

how do i unzip it?

Posted by: braindead5400

if you are using windows, then just right click the folder and select "extract all". It will unzip the folder so the program can be used

Posted by: SimSin13

anyone with a gx32 or a tm150 wanna share how long theres are?

Posted by: mmj12345

i make mine like 10 seconds or so.. or if i can do it, i make it so that like a 5 second chunk of the song works out so when it plays over and over it sounds like its looping over and over... takes some good timing tho. with the SMAF converter (the one with the volume and base options) you can set the output file size to whatever you want, so set it on 50kb and test and check with it....

i think anything past like 20 seconds and it will sound pretty crappy cuz its compressing so much file into only 50kb...

this should be a sticky. can a mod please sticky this?

Posted by: iblanky1

I'll be sure to check that out as soon as I get home ... is the editor a free download or will I need to subscribe to it?

Posted by: mtnbiker

has any1 tried to use the Nero wave editor on this???

Posted by: tre976

where do u set yer ring lenth to? I've checked what seem to be the obvious places and cant find any menu for it

Posted by: braindead5400

its not set by the phone menu, there is a code you have to dial into the handset so it can tell the network to change it

Hey Braindead,

How did you get around the 50Kb limit? And which phone are you using?

I own a sharp 902 which doesn't have the 50kb limit

Posted by: brandtTMO

My first ringer is loud and sounds good. It's only 9 seconds long, but it's just an instrumental hardcore breakdown (for those into hardcore music, it's the band Evergreen Terrace)

I can hear it far away and it was free, can't beat that.

just bumping this for people who might not see this.

mods. can you please sticky this? this is very helpful info and IMO should be a sticky.

It's been stickied

i used this method and got the file under 50 kb but it says illegal data whenever i try to open it on my gx32. does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Posted by: 風の子

it's work on my v902sh.
thanks very much.

Posted by: 風の子

it's work on my v902sh.
but the quality is too bad.

Posted by: adam_nguyen

I made a few for my 902 using http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/wsd.html and dbpoweramp for converting my mp3s into wav.

Basically, yuo get your wav files and open it in wave sound decorator and crop, normalize then save it as mmf.

Sounds really good because it uses ma-5 instead of 3 and 2

Posted by: Christiane09

good tutorial... i wanna know how you can get around that 50kB limit. i downloaded this ringtone one time and it was more than 50kB and it was hecka long but now, i dont know how it actually passed without saying unknown format

oh yeah and my ringtones can go to 15 seconds, TOPS.

will this work for v801sh too?
