anyone out there run into verizons data cable? a friend gave me the cable along with the driver disk that comes with it. no luck so far but i can see the filesystem with almost all of the newer versions of bitpim. i keep getting those exception windows when trying to get data from the phone. any suggestions? long time reader but first post!! thanx

Select the correct phone under settings. I was having a similar problem untill I selected the 8000 as my phone. The newest version of bitpim does support the 8000 (7.29) so if you do not have that version go to bitpim and down load it.

hey i was just trying to upload an mp3 to the aod directory and i get that unexpected exception has occurred. any ideas as to wut is up? bitpim does write to the phone with wallpaper and ringers.

I was having the same sort of problem from time to time for whatever reason. BitPim just did not like certine mp3's I was trying to load by using "New File" but I could add them if I used the "Overwrite" feature.

Hopefully you will be able to at least get one song on, if you do your home free. After you get one song on the phone, the trick is to rename the original song to something else before you rebooted your phone. This way once you reboot you will have two songs on your phone not just one, rince and repeat as nessassary.

I suggest just keep trying different songs untill you find one that finally loads. Kind of a pain but you should get them to work with some patience.

i was able to get a .wma file to to upload to the aod directory but after a reboot there was nothing in my tunes file so i then did the overwrite with an mp3 and still nothing in my tunes after a reboot. i am deleting the aod.dat file first. even when i restart bitpim and reboot the phone in the directory is the song but not on my phone. i've read thru almost all of the threads to see if i had missed something or if someone else had the same prob. maybe i'm tired...i don't know!!

Ok I tried to recreate the same thing on my phone and I too was not able to get wma files to show up after deleting the aod.dat file and rebooting the phone.

But I came up with a cheat solution, well at least on my phone it worked. Try renaming that wma file extension to mp3, then upload it to your phone. Now hopefully that file will still upload to your phone like it did mine. If it does? Your in business! (this file in this state will not play until you overwrite it with a real mp3, but it will appear on your phone). Now all you have to do is overwrite a real mp3 over that one and voila you have done it, a working mp3 in your tunes section on your vx8000

I also came up with a better way to cheat the overwrite feature. Copy your original up loadable renamed mp3 file several times and rename the song to titles of a songs you plan on putting on your phone, just keep uploading what is essentially the same song over and over but renamed to different songs you plan on putting on your phone. Then once you have all the titles of song you want on your phone begging to overwrite all your spoofed titled songs with the real ones that are true mp3's.
To play it safe I would erase the aod.dat and reboot between every uploaded spoofed title but after they are loaded it’s not necessary to reboot each time using the overwrite feature.

Another tip I will try to give you is try uploading the smallest renamed wma to mp3 file that you can, to save you upload time. Then pay attention to the size files you are overwriting with as to not go to much over 40 megs of songs, because some people have reported braking their phones putting on too much data, even though the phone shows it can handle 46 megs of contents, it's probably a bit less. Also try to use 64 bit mp3 songs as much as possible to maximize the amount of tunes you can load and still have a reasonable listening quality.

Well hopefully this works for you.

I came up with a way to make this process incredibly faster. If your wma files are not write protected and you have a sound file editor program like Gold wave ( You can download a share ware version here http://www.goldwave.com/ ). Ok, now what you do is, edit your song down to a second or so in length, then do the above mentioned steps of copying and renaming the files to mp3's. This will shorten your process greatly, only adding seconds of time for every song you load. Instead of waiting sometimes minutes to upload a full song that you will overwrite anyway, these edited down files only take a second or two to upload.

On a side note, Gold Wave is also an awesome program for amplifying the volume of your ring tones as well as changing their bit rates, so if you are not satisfied with your ring tone volume give it a shot for this as well. I used it to tweak up the volume of my tunes as well.

Awesome, glad I was of some help. My girl friend is always getting on me for spending too much time tinkering with my toys. So its good to hear some of that tinkering helped somebody out...LOL. As far as your question, unfortunately I have yet to crack how to do that, but if I ever do I be sure to post a how to.
