USB charging cable for VX7000

I'm in need of a good USB charging cable for my LG VX7000. My mobile office is my laptop and my mobile phone is of course my cell. Unforuntalely it's battery can 't make it through a busy day and last through a busy evening maintenance window. A USB charger would be ideal. I don't mind if it can't also act as a data cable (but that would be cool if it did). Charging is my biggest problem. Does anyone know of a good brand/model that fits my needs? Thanks

Here ya go. Ebay, .65 cents plus $6.99 shipping, thats the one I got. Charges phone and is a data cable.

Dont want to go through Ebay? Same cable direct from same sellers off Ebay website. Of course to buy it here its $15.99 plus $5.99 shipping.

Thanks for the reply. That cable looks strangely like the one I bought on eBay 3-4 months ago. I never thought it was actually a charging cable though. Best I could tell it consumed battery power instead of charging the battery. Actually it looks like I do have the same cable. The picture is the same as this one I won:

How about a dumb charging cable (ie, not data, just power)? That would be ok too. That might be a good thing just so that I don't have to jack with drivers or anything on the host computer. I could then walk up to any old computer and recharge the old cell. Any suggestions on that one?

Thanks

I looked at the model number, and that IS the same cable. Its actually charging the phone not discharging it. As far as being able to walk up to any computer and plug it in and charge, I was thinking about that myself. I suppose if you just plugged it in and cancelled the driver wizard it would still charge, the computer just wouldnt recognize it.

FWIW, charging your phone through the USB connection will be much slower than using the stand-alone charger.

For example, with the VX7000, the standard charger supplies 1000 mA at 5.0 V.

With all USB host devices, such as PCs and notebooks, they can source a maximum of 500 mA per USB socket.
Bus-powered USB hubs are guaranteed to supply only 100 mA.
Also, according to the USB spec, the minimum available voltage from a USB host or powered hub at the peripheral end of the cable is 4.5 V, while the minimum voltage from a USB bus-powered hub is 4.35 V.
These voltages allow little headroom when charging Lithium (Li-Ion) batteries.

That's good to know, Smuuth. All my coworkers have nice laptops for use as mobile offices. I'd like to recommend to the powers that be that we all get USB charging cables so we can keep our cells powered up in times of need (like a 3AM maintenance window). I may still do that.

One advantage of that, of course, is that if you are using the phone as a modem anyway, you can be assured that it will not go dead during your connection session.

Hello, why cant you just use the charging cable that plug's into a wall outlet at your office, like the one that comes with the phone??..it is much quicker.

I also was wondering if you charge the phone the night before, it should have no problems staying charged all day, as the battery life on my VX 7000 last 3 or more days without recharging, as long as I am not using it continuosly all day...perhaps you need a new battery that will hold a charge longer????

I charge my phone every night even it is only a little low, as this I was told is the best way to make the battery last longest. it is not a good Idea to let battery get to very low and then charge it, but to charge it every night as this helps the cycle of the battery life....thats what I know....just letting you also know, in case you didnt know already

Here is the OEM cable (charging) from eBay, $15.95 + 9.99 shipping...

Make sure and read about the charging differences between non-OEM and OEM cables about 1/3rd of the way down the page at this URL.

I'm sure it's quicker. Problem is we're much less likely to have ready access to a NEMA 5-15 or 5-20 receptacle than we are to a charged up laptop. A lot of our networking gear 220v so it's sometimes hard to find a useable receptacle. The other thing is it's yet another bulky item to add to my already over-stuffed laptop case. A USB adapter would be easier to cope with than another power brick. Still it may be the best option in the end. I suppose those can be bought on eBay as well...?
