(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

hey does anyone know the step by step procedure on how set up free wap.....if there is such a way or am i stuck with having to pay for t zones.....

Posted by: braindead5400

you are stuck with paying for tzones

Posted by: kdm212

the reason why i ask cause i stumbled upon a thread that appeared to be a free wap thread and it gave partial instructions on how to set up a new access point i believe....but the phone says it needs more info or something to activate those settings

Posted by: twinight

Settings->Account Settings->Browser Settings....pick an empty profile and use these settings:

Profile name: (whatever you prefer)
Gateway address: 010.168.200.050
Homepage: (whatever wap page you want)
Port number: 9201
Connection type: CSD
CSD Settings: Phone No.:19132440821
CSD Settings: Line type: ISDN

Uses mobile to mobile minutes.

Posted by: kdm212

now you say i dont need tzones then??? and all it uses is m-m minutes??? i have a family plan so that should work right? thanks

Posted by: twinight

yep. I have the family plan and it uses my free M2M.
You can check your usage online at T-mobile.com and it lists as M2M. It's slower than GPRS, but I only use it to look up addresses and ph #'s while on the road, so it'd be a waste to pay $4.99 for t-zones.

Posted by: braindead5400

hmm...I didn't know there was a free CSD trick, I thought there was only the old gprs trick. I don't have free mobile to mobile though and CSD is too slow anyway

Posted by: kdm212

ok so i put all that info in but how do i access the internet through that portal i activate it and then what go to the tzones button?

Posted by: twinight

yes

I did these steps and got an 'incomplete settings' error message. When editing there are also Circuit Prompt, GPRS settings (apn, username, password, linger time), and more categories under CSD settings (phone #, (line type: i did ISDN per above), username, password, and linger time). What do I need to set for these in order to get that WAP working on my regular minutes??

Help.

Circuit prompt - Disable
CSD Settings:
Phone No. 19132440821
User Name: (leave blank)
Password: (leave blank)
Linger Time: 180 (seconds of idle time before it disconnects)

If this doesn't work, try entering WAP for user name and BLANK for password. I left the GPRS settings blank.

Ok, those last setting helped me get the profile to get accepted, however, when I try to go to the internet, I keep getting an error message "Could not connect, please try again".

I even tried changing the wap homepage to wap.yahoo.com (with and without www in front of it) and wap.kisember.com and still no luck. What do I need to do?

Thanks.

Hey thanks*** i just set up per these instructions and i am now posting this from my phone!
how slow is it?

Posted by: SoccerRef

Considering this was my first "Non-PC" based trip on the Internet, I don't have much to compare to...

It wasn't fast, I can tell you that, but then again, I wouldn't expect it to be "fast". It seemed about like a dial up connection, maybe a little faster.

I checked my minute usage and it shows a call being made last night, which I KNOW I didn't make last night. It has no number, just indicates that it was an internet call. It showed 6 minutes of T-Mo to T-Mo, and that's about how long I was on, so I assume it's working. I'll try a better "control" test later this week.

I'm on Rogers here in Canada. Can I use the same settings? And say I use it in the evening, when my minutes are free, does that mean the surfing is free using this trick? It may be a stupid question, but I didn't know if this would only work if I had a special mobile to mobile plan.

SoccerRef, could you do me a huge favor when you get a chance and let me know exactly what you put in each part of the brower settings on your tm-150 (particularly the 'home page' setting)? Per my note above, I put everything in as other people stated and I still cannot get a connection from my tm-150. Thanks!!!

Posted by: SoccerRef

I put in "wap.howardforums.com", without the quotes of course...

Under CSD settings, I did put in a Username of "WAP" and a Password of "BLANK", again without quotes...

I will say I tried a few times before I was successful, one of those times I found that I had set up the profile, but failed to activate it.

Hope this helps...
SoccerRef

Socceref, would that be http://www.wap.howardforums.com or without the www?

Thanks.

Posted by: braindead5400

no www The forum page is wap.howardforums.com

Posted by: SoccerRef

Put in JUST "wap.howardforums.com", no need for the "http://www."

Don't ask me why, but mine is working just fine without it!

(My slightly educated guess is that the phone does not interpret HyperText Transfer Protocol (http) like the computer does. I don't know what WAP means, but I am pretty sure it is a Protocol that the phones can interpret.)

Thanks for the clarification, but I still can't get a connection.

My browser settings are:

gateway address: 010.168.200.050
homepage: wap.howardforums.com
port number: 9201
circuit prompt: disable
connection type: CSD
gprs settings: (didn't do anything here)
CSD settings: phone #: 19132440821
line type: ISDN
useraname: WAP
password: BLANK
linger time: 180

then I hit my t-zones button or go to my internet prompt in settings and no connection. What did i do wrong? Thanks!

I left the username blank and the password blank, and both worked for me. Any other wap pages that work besides t-mobile?

Thanks,
Tom

jmk32...

When you say you are not getting a connection, what do mean? What do you see when you hit the T-Zones Button?

I see the "T-Zones" page. Then I go to Options...Home... and presto, I have Howard Forums on my phone. Also under Options is "Go to URL"... there i can type in a WAP. address and see other sites.

Posted by: jmk32

When I hit the t-zones button, i get the error message: "Could not connect, please try again"

wap=wireless access protocol

Posted by: jmk32

Could one of you who has been successful in getting this wap connection to work, please post all the various settings you are using? I still can't get mine to work/connect.

Thanks!!!

You may be able to use those same settings, but keep in mind you will be calling long distance to the US. But you have US long distance included in your plan, you should be able to use the T-Mobile CSD settings (unless when you dial into that number they check to see if you're a T-Mobile subscriber).
