902SH firmware

Is there a way to get rid of vodafone in the 902? Somehow there has to be oem firmware for it, right? i think for the tm100 or gx20 or something like that there was a way to flash it to the blueish oem firmware. Anything like that for the 902?

I've never heard of it. Both the phones (902 and 902SH) are made for voda so I'm not sure an unbranded version of the firmware would exist.

that's right. that's the one i'm talking about. I am sure that if sharp makes a cell phone they also have some oem firmware to it.

wait, do you mean the 902sh? If there is some other firmware besides the voda, I would love to have it. I'm in the US though and prolly wouldn't have access to anyone who could flash it (unless it can be done by me)

Quick question.

Do you think that the price of the 902SH will go up once the unbranded firmware gets around?

I wouldn't expect it to. I believe the GX32 was more expensive than the GX30 because more people wanted the 32, so it was harder to sell the 30 (therefor it was given a lower price). Thats just my guess. If the new firmware gets around, the phone will still have the 4 voda symbols on the body. People might buy the phone and then put the unbranded FW on it so they can sell it for more but I can't see that working if the FW is widely available to everyone.

what's worth having on the original firmware is more than just a cosmetic issue. the mp3 ringtone capability, the japanese language input, the OCD scanner, all of which are disabled in certain 902's that is present on the original firmware. i do think it'll worth more for this reason. the vodafone markings are easy to wipe off, the battery cover can easily be replaced with another one (i'm sure aftermarket covers will be widely available soon), with the exception of the display marking. i'm told that the european 902 has different words than a japanese one. my 602sh says CG SILICON on the bottom middle of the display, whereas the ones here say vodafone.

so you don't have a 902? The voda brandings on the 902 are not easily removed. I was saying that it probably won't affect the price if people can download and install the firmware themselves. I mean, why pay more for an unbranded FW version if you can get a branded one cheaper and just download the firmware. What will send the price up is if the firmware isn't available to the public, meaning you couldn't buy a voda 902 and update it yourself.

Quick question, what does the OCD scan do?

guys, I don't know if you know this website already, here it goes
http://sharp.x-mc.net/index.php?p=flashes

good luck finding/waiting for the 902sh firmware.

no, i've got a 602sh. i've been wanting to buy the 902sh but only the japanese version. the OCD reads barcodes that websites, magazines, different forms of media has in their advertisements. you'll see them on japanese websites in a form of a square. hold your 902sh on it, and it'll read it. most often, it'll have the bookmark of the URL, and a brief introduction of the site. quite interesting.
