tried searching through the forums but can't seem to get a straight answer.
i'm looking at this 'data pilot' kit which includes software and cable. the kit is like 50 bucks though, so i'm wondering if i can just purchase a data cable from somewhere and get away w/ using free software from elsewhere?
so in all i guess i'm asking if i can just buy a cable and dl bitpim and still be able to transfer pix and tones to my phone?
i'm new to this stuff so any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Yes.. BitPIM and PST are programs that are free (well BitPIM is for sure). I bought the cable from EBay, and the seller sent the driver and software for free. Of course the software sent was BitPIM which you can download for free.. which now has partial support for the VX8000!!
