Im new to the treo world and was wondering how easy it is to put mp3's on the phone. im looking to buy an SD card for this.

And what program would you suggest for a program to use my mp3's as ringtones.......

Thanks

P.S. How does listening to music affect battery life??

It's really easy to transfer Mp3 files to a SD card. All you need is a SD card reader/writer. You can get them at most computer/electronic stores for $20 or so. You can transfer them via a hot sync but it takes a long time.

As for Mp3 ringers I always like Lightwav but there are three or so others ones as well.

Nope.

Mp3 files can only be installed to the SD card.

You can install thirdparty applications that treat your RAM like an SD card. However, its pointless really as you are better off saving that money and buying an SD card and card reader. But instead of a card reader get Softick CardExportII. It allows you to use your Treo with SD card as a USB Key. Its neat and much simpler than carrying around the SD reader.

Despite what others have said above, YES you can put MP3's in the internal memory - they must be converted to pdb's first - check out this resource:

Pocket-tunes how to conversion to .pdb

Then any application that can play internal MP3's such as Pocket Tunes
Pocket Tunes, which is my favorite or even Real player, or AeroPlayer.

I do not reccomend anything other than ringtones or alert tones - but you betcha you can get mp3s into internal memory.

I would check out TreoCentral.com or mytreo.net for more info. There are a ton of Treo users and frankly it does so much more than make calls.

I have a Seidio cradle connected to my car stereo - I have MP3's and telephone calls through the stereo. You can guess how cool that is.... I love it. I listen to Audible.com audio books as I drive as well. I love this phone (former Kyo7135 user).

If you want to use the SDard just use hot sync cable to conect the treo to come and open up my comp and the sd will show up as a removable drive then just drad them on to it

the card reader would be a faster transfer tho

There is another way (It seems much faster to me than the Hotsync way, but you decide).

If you want to use the Treo as a Card Reader on ANY computer - you will need CardExportII.CardExportII

Quote:
Using Softick Card Export II it's possible to access an SD/MMC card inserted into a Palm OS device as a logical disk on your Windows, Mac or Linux desktop.

Card Export II emulates a USB Mass Storage device (like USB card reader, USB flash drives etc) and doesn't require any additional drivers on modern desktop systems.

So you have the ability to use any OS or computer to access/add files. No need to only use your own computer loaded with the Hotsync conduits. Its quite handy.
