MP3 players, lesser of 3 evils :)

Ok, I started to dabinto mylibrary so I can download songs on my palm. I bought a 1 GB card, which works just fine, the problem is as follows:

1. If I use Real player, I am constantly shutting off ads. However, it has natural support to Read player on my palm

2. Windows media player is better because it has no ads, but has no support to palm. None that I can see anyway.

3. Itunes, well haven't even checked, but doubt it would support it. And it seems I'll have to go into itunes, and import my hundreds of albums, one at a time.

Please help!! Thanks.

Maz

Why dont you just download MP3's off the internet and transfer them to your SD card using an SD reader? Or better yet just use your Palm USB cable and Softick CardExportII. Then you wont have to go through those external interfaces like iTunes and WMP.

I've found that to be the easiest way. I just pop my SD card into my card reader and manually copy mp3's and videos over.

I'm too lazy to plug in my SD card reader (i have very few usb slots on my laptop) so i just plug in my normal Treo usb hotsync cable and run the CardExport program. My SD card then shows up as a removable drive on my PC. Then its as easy as drag and drop.

That sounds pretty cool. Do the files transfer as quickly as with your card reader? And can you see the directories on your card to drop the files right where you want them?

I have a USB 2.0 card reader but I cant' really compare as since I never use it nowadays I cant find it! Its lost amid my dirty clothes and other misc junk. But I can tell you thats its 1000x faster than usb hotsync and 100x faster than IR "beaming"(not the hotsyncing which is super slow). The SD card in your Treo just shows up as a removable drive JUST like a USB Memory Key, so you see all the folders and everything as if it was just another harddrive on your PC. Its my most used application other than the PHONE app on my Treo.

I'm using Softick CardExportII to copy audio and video files to and from the SD card. A free trial is available from their website.

Do keep in mind that I think the Real Player on your palm expects the mp3 files to be in the /audio directory of the SD card.

Prior to using CardExportII I was just using Quick Install to copy the files to the SD card.

For whatever reason I still have an aversion to anything associated with Real Networks because of the past privacy and data collection issues.

What privacy/data issues? Instead of RealOne Player I use PocketTunes which is free with Treo 600 purchase and you can select MP3/WMAs from anywhere on your SD card.

I was referring to the data collection issues around the RealPlayer for the PC in 1999.

It's really old news at this point. However this issue still sticks with me for some reason.

Yeah, I stopped using anything from Real after that. I have the "Real Alternative" codec for WMP so I can watch Real movie clips without having to to get the player.

I like the guy above have pocket tunes, I tried the real player, it works ok, but none of the other programs I have downloaded will work with it (such as TreoGaurd-which will play the songs from Pocket tunes as ringtones, and its freeware). I hate Replayer though because it completely takes over you pc if youu use it, when MediaPlayer works so much better. I heard that Pocket Tunes works with Media Player, but I havent synched it up yet, but Pockettunes will pull up any MP3's on your card, so it plays everything I had in Realplayer, so you could transfer over through realplayer then have pocket tunes play them, and I think PT is only like $15-20, add treogaurd and you dont have to buy the $30 program to play MP3 ringtones.
