windows XP sp2 refuses to use correct driver for v3

So I've probably put in a good 8 hours trying to get this to work (searching and BVRP tech support haven't yielded a solution) I have the latest version of MPT (3.23) installed, and the correct modem driver installed, but windows is still showing my phone as an unknown usb device in device manager. I have tried pointing it to what I think are the correct drivers a number of times to no avail, windows says the inf files contain no info about my device. If anyone knows a way to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated oh, the v3 is connected via a usb cable.

Thanks

apparently you're a smart guy because you managed to get windows xp sp2 into your subject line. that's your problem right there. try uninstalling the service pack or reinstalling xp or using 2000. sp2 is the bane of phone modding.

We use SP2 on all our motorola flashing stations, no problems here, Motorola also recommended we install the SP2 otherwise motorola says the service software may not work correctly.

Now who is the smart guy here?

so does anyone know of a work around for sp2? or how to get it to work right? I can setup a spare hard drive with win2k on it, but that's a lot of work to be able to play around on my phone
