i have a friend who is selling his treo 650...however, he told me that it wont work with a cingular sim card, it'll only work with the att sim card (blue/white color card) even though he bought the phone from an att/cingular store. im currently on cingular and i was wondering would it matter, shouldnt it work? what if i was to unlock the phone...would it work with my cingular sim card then? thanks!

get it unlocked and u can use it on any GSM service.

i dont understand why it wouldnt work locked anyways...arent att and cingular one in the same now?

plus...to get it unlocked...would i just call cingular cust. serv or tech support and they would supply me with an unlock code? thanks

It would'nt work. Even though both the Cingular 650 and the AT&T 650 both have cingular branding out the outside etc, each one is programmed differently. As in the AT&T one is locked to Blue sim cards and has Mmode WAP settings programmed into it, while the Cingular version is locked to Orange Sim Cards and has MEdiaNet WAP settings programmed into it.

Understand now, so you'll have to unlock the AT&T T650 to use it on Cingular, contact Cingular and they can give you the unlock code

Make sure that you call Cingular Tech support and not customer care... I spent 3 hours trying to explain what a subsidy unlock code being transfered from rep to rep... Finaly got the tech support number and had the code within 5 min. The number i have though is for orange, you are going to need the blue number.

Cingular unlocked a friends phone in the same situation. You have to insist a bit.
