huh?? whats this about.. I just read a few posts and it seems like motorola has recalled this phone.

Can someone shed some light on this?

I have an MPX220 and it fine.

Mine is non-branded so what happens to me?

I shelled out a lot of cash, I just don't want to get screwed.

Supposedly, they are working on a new firmware update. But that is still speculation.

I just bought one last night from a retail Cingular store. I'm waiting for an unlock code from them as I am not a cingular customer, and will be using it with tmobile. On the side of the box, where the IMEI and MSN is, there is a date stamp, which reads March 16, 2005. Hopefully, it isn't the expiration date ! LOL

hey evilninja, how much did you pay at the Cingular store? I've been looking for a PDA/Phone (w/ wifi, bt & bb client), but it looks like I might be waiting for a while and in the meantime I've been thinking about getting an mpx220 but I don't wanna spend too much since I will be getting another new phone hopefully this year... Still praying that Samsung will release a version of the i730 for Cingular...

well, i got mines through my roommate's employee discount. he works for corporate cingular and got 30% off the retail. Retail is 399. So after taxes, it was just about 300. I'm selling my unlocked motorola a630, and will be using the mpx220 as soon as I get the unlock code.

I played around with my roommate's treo650, and I would consider it if it was a windows mobile 2005, + wifi, + no external antenna

but that's probably asking for too much.

I just got off the phone with Cingular. I wanted to get a MPX220. Last week they quoted me pricing. This week they say they can't sell any right now, that the phones are out of stock pending a new version of firmware.

doooh why did they sell ME one last night then? They told me it was the last one too. Oh well, I knew a new ROM was coming, and if that's the only change, then I can update it myself. The box has the date march 16, 2005. I don't have it unlocked yet, so is it possible mine has the current firmware?

Who knows, maybe they did just run out, or the hold just went into place. I'd think you can upgrade later no sweat.

I've called em four times, each time the answers have been different. Data plan, no data plan. Phone is $90, phone is $400... So maybe this is just BS too.

You taken a look at the new HP H6500 or H6700, from the specs I've seen it has all of that... Wifi, BT, hopefully wm'05 and no external antenna... I think (praying) this is the device I've been waiting for...

i donno about the 6500... its really really wide... it could never pass as a phone. it would be a great pda... but i cant imagine holding it up to my ear... here... take a look at this pic.. http://www.bargainpda.com/?newsID=2404

in my personal opinion, the big-dadddy of all ppc-phones is going to be the benq p50... aka treo killer.

hey tiger, I just double checked the specs and it's not too bad, especially if you were looking at the Treo...
HP 6500 dimensions: 4.5in x 2.8in. x .63in
Treo 650 dimensions: 4.4in. x 2.4in. x .9in.
So, it's the same height pretty much and only .4 in. wider... Not a skinny phone by any means but if you have a BT headset then no need to ever really put the phone to your head...
Almost forgot
Benq P50 dimensions: 4.72in. x 2.37in. x .79in.
I think for me it's gonna be the 6500 or the P50, and it'll all depend on which comes out first...lol

Tho the Benq P50 may never see the light of day in the states as they waste time trying to get a carrier to bite. By then it will be yesterday's news.

they dont have to release it in the US. they can release it anywhere and expansys will have it.

I have a motorola mpx 220 AT&T, however I am a Cingular customre and I need a unblock code. I used a friends AT&T sim in the phone and it works fine but I can't use my Cingular sim. I have been having too many problems trying to get this unblock code so I just want to get rid of the phone. The phone is brand new, never used. So if there is anyone that wants to buy it email me at shannonslucky@yahoo.com, I am also willing to trade for a brand new mpx 220 on the Cingular side.
