Prepaid SideKick or Ogo?

What is better, the prepaid Sidekick or the Cingular Ogo?

It seems that the data coverage is better on the sidekick for email, texting, and Intant Messaging. But I also heard that the Ogo is pretty good with the Aol, E-mail and Texts.

I want the Sidekick on prepaid for the reason that it has the data service that has web, email, text, and instant messaging.

The device is $329.99 w/ a $50.00 mail-in-rebate right now but I hope it goes down in price soon. But the price isnt that bad for the phone your getting.

My big question is what to get? Im stuck on the whether I should get the Sidekick on prepaid or the Ogo?

Ive been looking at the Sidekick prepaid it just seems cooler and you can browse the net and make calls if you want on the Sidekick. You may want to check ebay for a cheaper one.

Thanks Adam. Im just confused about it. Sidekick is really cool and I really do like the web feature as just a way to check a couple of websites.

From part comparisons people have agreed that the sidekick is better then the ogo. I have just purchased a sk and am going to us it on prepaid. Seems a smarter choice then signing a contract. From my understanding is the ogo does not have web browsing. But others have speculated that a new version of the ogo had web browsing would be far superior. So i guess you will have to weigh the options. pink

Yeah, I'm going to wait a while myself and see what the options are, but I'm probably going with the SK prepaid. I have an addiction with gadgets it seems and right now I don't think is the best time to add a $30 a month bill along with my regular cell bill. Probably I'll get one this summer depending on what's coming out.

I actually received an Ogo from a friend. This was before the SKII prepaid was announced. To be honest, the Ogo was a decent little device. Sure it didn't have web browsing, but the aim/email was great. There are ways to pair the device to a computer for unlimited internet. I did it with my powerbook using bluetooth. Remeber though that the Ogo is probably nearing its end. Cingular doesn't want it.. maybe a third party will pick it up. I ended up loosing the GPRS signal - which the device relies on for service - and was dead in the water. I waited 2 days for service to come back and decided to quit. I ended up getting the SKII prepaid. I bought an SKII off ebay and activated it for prepaid. A lot cheaper then paying the $329 up front on the Tmo site.

Dont touch the OGO, it sucks so much.

i wish i never paid for it.

and the OGO's instant messaging is the mobile version not GPRS like on the SK... Very slow...

Sidekick II--
i got it on prepaid and i love it--
the features u recieve are worth it

Thanks for the replies. I want to get the Sidekick 2 but I wonder if it's going to go down in price anytime soon. It's not too much money but I know that there was a $50.00 instant rebate online along with the regular $50.00 mail in rebate which made it only $229.00.

Yeah the features for data are really something. The data feature would be the only reason I get the SK2.

I just wanted a phone that offered data such as e-mail, instant messaging, and web browsing for a prepaid plan. If anyone knows of one, please reply.

Thanks

Just get a sk2 off ebay. Doesn't even have to be a brand new one.

The Ogo is still being sold on Amazon for $129.00 and you still buy it from Cingular Telesells for $79.00

I bought one becuase I want to switch from my SKII prepaid to the Ogo becuase the battery life on the Ogo is alot better. Soon to sale my SKII on ebay.

dont get the ogo.. coverage sucks.. and i cant use it half the time anyway. stupid aim doesnt connect... etc..

ive used the SK2 for a few hours now.. and its already tons better. not to mention i got it for free with 1 year contract.

You got the Sidekick 2 for free w/ 1 year contract? Thats a very good deal. I had to pay like $250.00 for it with the Unlimited data plan.

Did you get just the data plan or a voice and data plan?

Wouldnt it be pretty useless to get just a voice plan on the SD2? It's just that it's really good for data and stuff like that.

thanks

i had to get both. plans

My wife is about to dump her Ogo because outgoing SMTP email has only been working about 10% of the time for the past few weeks. When she calls up Cingular they tell her, yes, their server is down and they don't know when it will be available.

She was very happy with the Ogo before this recent outage but it's absurd that they can't get a reliable SMTP server operating in 2 weeks. Cheaper hardware and service aren't worth anything if it doesn't work.

I'm on this board now because I'm looking into a SKII for her.

They are both great devices to be honest.

I chose the ogo because of the lower fixed cost. You really can add alot of functionality to the ogo to get more for your money as well. Sidekick seems like a great device too, but my choice is the ogo.

Ummm this would only be true of hotmail or any other service you've added the ATTWIRELESS SMTP server to. Have you tried adding one of the free POP3 emails to her ogo? HotPOP or BlueBottle are both pretty reliable and free POP3 services that could be added for free, just trying to help.
