S66 Ringtone & Camera Shutter Sounds

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just two quick questions on the S66. The first is about the ringtones.

When the phone rings, the volume rises from the lowest setting to the setting I chose. How can I make it start at the setting I chose, rather than have the rising volume? I tried changing the volume in Audio Settings and in Profiles, and nothing worked. It's only when I receive a call or message, and I hate it.

Second, is there a way, legal or not, to change or disable the camera shutter sound? It's incredibly loud and annoying, and I can't find any settings to change that.

on the second point... get od.exe and access the phone system.
delete the file called cameraclickmelody.wav or similar and the camera will have no sound

Thanks for the reply. I got an email from Siemens saying I can't change the camera sound (without doing what you suggested ), and that some ringtones are just made that way. Thanksa again!

All the ringtones go from lower volume to higher. That's a security precaution to prevent you to damage your hearing, if you are holding the phone next to your ear when it rings.

You need a file transfer manager software like Siemens Mobile Phone Manager or SiMoCo to access the file system. And you need a data cable, preferably a genuine USB DCA-510. Then you run OpenDisk (oe.exe) which will enable you to see a new directory "Config". Go to subdirectory "Default" and first backup the file CameraClickMelody.wav and then you can delete it from there.

where do i get this open disk program? And do i need the dca-510 to connect to the S66? sorry for all the questions, i'm considering getting this phone.

i'd say :

1) Google for od.exe
2) I think data cables are the ONLY way you can connect your phone to the computer (unless you've a IrPort/Bluetooth ob your computer)

Yes, you need this data cable to get into the hidden directories using Open Disk.

can i use a generic USB DCA-510 cable?
or does it have to be the OEM version?

Uhmm, I highly recommed the OEM one. It is good for everything.

Do you guys know of a program that allows you to access the phone's files and is Mac compatible? Od.exe does not work on my Mac

Posted by: joey322

not sure. but i gotta say that od.exe does not work with the s66 fw34. but od.exe works with s66 fw43(s65's full flash)

I didn't use OD.exe, I used VieSie with OD built in, and it has a built in file browser. I worked great on my original S66fw34. It would only work with a genuine siemens cable though.
Also has worked on fw 43 and 50
