Siemens SL55 + data cable problem

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi,
I have a Siemens SL55 with Siemens Data Suite installed on my PC. I got a data cable on ebay, which is the one below:

The cable is supposed to charge the phone and transfer data from the PC to the phone and vice versa.
The problem is, the computer doesn't find the phone when it's plugged in. I installed the drivers for the cable and the computer knows there is a cable plugged in, but can't find a phone.
Also, the phone doesn't realize there is a data cable plugged in, it doesn't even charge!
I emailed the guy who I bought it from, sent me a new one and I still have the same problem.
One thing, when I installed the driver for the cable, Windows told me that the driver hadn't passed XP testing yet, etc.

What can I do, anyone know where I can find another driver for this, I have no idea what the brand is.
Any ideas?

Thx

does this model of the cable have a switch for data and charging?

are you using the same com port in the software and in device manager?

Posted by: evanichka

you have the right COM port set?

Posted by: DarkFall01

The cable does not have a switch for charging and data transfer, it's just a USB cable that connects with the PC and the phone.

I tried all COM ports on Siemens Data Suite, and it couldn't find the phone.

Maybe I have to change something on the phone, but what?

did you try freia?

I just did, it couldn't find the phone though.
It can't be that 2 cables are damaged

I read somewhere that it's better if the cables are parallel port rather than USB, is that true?

Posted by: evanichka

i think you mean serial... a lot of the siemens will not work with a true usb cable like the dca-540

however, usb to serial cables such as the dca-510 or serial (dca-500?) work with ALL siemens phones

as for freia, it might require a trick for it to see the phone... at least thats what i needed for my sl56.. never tried using freia with my sl55 tho

what is the cable listed as in device manager? is there a yellow exclamation mark?

It shows as USB Data Cable (COM4). And no, there's no exclamation mark. Also, it says the device is working properly...

Let me remind you, that when I installed it, Windows told me the driver hadn't passed Windows XP testing yet...

most drivers for these cables would say that

you clicked "continue anyways" right?

Yeah, I did, the computer knows when I plug it in too and plug it back out. I've tried reinstalling the driver several times, restarting the PC, phone, etc., but nothing.

It's the phone that doesn't recognize it, and in return the computer can't find the phone.

if the phone doesnt detect the cable... its not compatible so it wont do you any good

Posted by: DarkFall01

Thatīs weird, bc, the auction where I bought it from it said that it was compatible with the SL55 and the cable has a little sticker that says SL55.

I guess I will have to buy a new cable, which Siemens cable do you guys recommend?

How about this one?

Posted by: evanichka

about the cable you bought... so NOTHING shows up when you connect the cable to the computer and the phone, and when you go to the phone status menu and scoll all the way to the bottom?

about the dca-500... as long as you use it with official siemens software, i dont see any problems...

i read somewhere (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/arc...ex.php/t-119476 - see what Schlips says) the 500 may not work with certain non-siemens software, but i have absolutely no experience with the dca-500, only the dca-510

just wondering... why the dca-500 and not the dca-510? i guess it doesnt matter for desktops since they have a serial port, but a lot of the new laptops dont have serial ports, so you would have to get a usb to serial adapter IF you were to use it on laptops that dont have serial ports

i dunno, just some stuff to consider. just stay away from dca-540

I just tried again, Siemens Data Suite can't find any phone on COM4 (or any other COM).

As far as the phone goes, wouldn't it find the cable automatically and charge/show that I connected a cable in to it? Or do I have to go to some option and change something. I can't seem to find anything in the users manual.
Where's that status menu you're mention?

Posted by: evanichka

i think you press #066*# or something like that... i really cant remember im sure someone else can tell you. dont have access to my phone right now

once you enter the status menu you can press the left function? key (the key right below the screen) for more info and if you scroll all the way down, if you have some kinda cable connected, it will say dca-510 or something of that sort

Thx, I was looking for some menu of that sort. When I type that code it says "NOT EXECUTED", so I'm guessing it's something else. I tried googling it and checked the users manual, but couldn't find it. Anyone else know what it is?

Everyone seems to be having problems with there cables working and upgrading the firmware. I bought one from ebay, I'll post the link below. It is a USB one for the SL56 and I was able to upgrade to firmware 11 from the siemens site with no problems at all.

Thx, I just tried it and all the way in the bottom it says:

Acc.: plugged in

The rest is just Audio-Par and the other statuses.

When I don't have the cable plugged in or the AC cable plugged in, it says:

Acc.: none

I guess this means it did find the cable, now I just have to figure out what to do...

We don't have the same cable, but did the phone just find it automatically or did you have to do something?

Posted by: evanichka

if the phone doesnt see the cable, it wont work with the phone

even if its a non-siemens cable, i would think it would say dca-xxx of some sort istead of just acc. plugged in.

just a guess, not 100% sure

Hey buddy,
I have the same cable. It does not charge but it syncs without a problem. Mine is set on com6. The only thing I had to do is adjust the XTND software to look the serial ports. Default was infrared

hiya i have just bought a sl55 and notice that threre is no sms message icon just mms and email so i cant retreve or send sms i notice you have the same phone do you have to set it up or am i looking in the wrong place ill appreciate any help thanks vicky

Posted by: velian

There should be if everything is okay with your phone. You should have at least 4 submenus under Messages
New SMS
New MMS
New EMail
INBOX

INBOX then splits up into SMS, MMS, EMAIL

Posted by: stickytoria

hiya no i dont have the new sms could i have erased it some how and do you know how to get it back? thanks for your quick reply. vicky

No. The only other thing I can think of is the lending option. I don't have my SL55 in front of me but I remember there were few settings on how to restrict outgoing calls when lending your phone to someone. I think it is the bottom right icon. Check if your current mode is not one of them. I can't recall if you can disable text messages from there but it is worth trying. If this doesn't work I would do a master reset first, then upgrade the firmware to the latest version and if this doesn't help either I'd take it to a repair center.
