HI!
I'm trying to choose between the Motorola v551 and the LG L1400. The moto is $20 more. Can anybody offer their advice/expertise on making this decision? Thanks!

I would go with the Motorola V551 as the LG phones have bad reception. I read on phone scoop that the Motorola V551 is a decent reception phone.

After much deliberation, I decided to go with the moto over the lg. Although I prefer the user interface of Asian phones, I felt that moto was a more solid phone in this contest.

We'll see how it goes though. I'll have to learn abit- my first pic/vid phone. So far so good!

also .... I don't think the LG has a speakerphone if that matters to you

Let us know what you think of the reception on the Motorola V551 especially in fringe areas.

Cingular tech support informed me that the L1200 & L1400 are very robust. It is very rare for anyone to report a problem with them.
I use a L1200. A friend of mine uses the L1400.
They seem to be basically the same phone other than cosmetic appearance and sub-lcd.
We've found them to be excellent.
RF is average.
Menu system is easy to navigate.
Good sound quality.
Doesn't crash.

This is my first moto. I've only had Asian phones before this. So far, I'm satisfied with the v551. My main gripe is that there's a delay between hitting a button and the phone responding. Phone workmanship is solid. Reception is good so far. After reading a lot on v551's battery 'problems', I'm trying to cycle the battery as we speak. After first charge, I got just about 48 hours before the 'low battery warning' came on. That's ok, but I expect better. Hopefully after a few full charges it'll last longer. I definitely agree that LG has an easier user-interface. I'll try to give another update in the next few days.
