When is the AIM app, provided by RIM coming out? I've read about it but I haven't seen any dates. Does anyone out there already have it?

yes I have it, its on the tmo upgrade site... but its not GPRS it works with text messages so you are better off getting one of the third party programs.

in the 7290 section...

That's the T-Mobile instant messaging app, not the RIM-branded instant messaging app. Not the same thing that RIM is coming out soon with.

However, third party probably will still be better...

I hope the RIM version isn't SMS-based.

Where can I get the third party app?

Verichat from www.pdaapps.com is one of the third party chat apps. Also check out Webmessenger from www.reqwireless.com.

Any word of when we can expect an upgrade from NEXTEL and if anything new is coming down the line for GPS or other features...

Will this work with the 7100?

So, any word yet on when the official versions of AIM and Yahoo IM will be available?

VeriChat hates me... It can never log into my AIM account.

In the meantime, I guess I'll have to try WebMessenger.

I don't know what this has to do with messenger software, but if you check the nextel forum we have a few threads on what's coming.

I havent heard of anything new, but Ramble seems to be working really well for me.

It not as sophisticated as Verichat but it seems to be more reliable when using aim...

Tried several different AIM applications here and couldn't get any to work...until Verichat. It just installed and has been working with very few problems since, in and out of the States.

Cingular 7290 fwiw.

how long is the verichat and webmessenger trial periods? i couldnt find it on their sites.

Posted by: Opi

i havent really seen any vzw users posting, is it the same regardless

RIM has indicated a "flurry" of product (software and hardware) releases scheduled for this fall. They've previously announced their intention to release Instant Messaging clients on various services this year; including AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and others. And they've already released Blackberry Messenger for PIN IM.

Sit tight...it's coming.

Webmessenger is a 30 day trial, and I believe Verichat is the same. Look under downloads on their webpages for it.

That program will not work with any other model Blackberry at this time...it will save the IM's to the SIM as SMS messages and fill up the SIM after 30 IM's or logon/logoffs, etc...you will then need to remove the SIM, put it in another phone, clear the SMS messages off and then uninstall the 7290 IM program. Just wait till they have it available for the other devices...this is why it is not located in the Download sections of the other Blackberry's on that page.
