Bluetooth W/ Blackberry

The blackberry bluetooth function is not as user friendly as some of the other phones I've used.

Quite frankly, it's really annoying and I'm ready to jump ship.

Here's my issue: The Jabra headset that I use does not like to stay permanently connected to the handset. I assume that this is for security and/or battery issues. So, when I have an incoming call on the BB handset, I have to use the scroll button to select the bluetooth headset.

Alternatively, I can connect with the headset itself, but it requires pressing and holding the connect button for several seconds to activate the link, and then an additional button push to answer the call. I often miss or drop calls doing this, so I wind up rarely using bluetooth. Am I doing something wrong?

Also, has anyone been able to successfully and SEAMLESSLY use the blackberry with a bluetooth car kit, such as the one sold by Motorolla?

Don't be too quick to blame the Blackberry! Which Jabra headset are you using? There are known compatibility issues with the Blackberry and the BT800.

I've been using the BT250 with my Blackberry 7250, and it's been great..no issues whatsoever. Very seamless.

I can't offer any feedback on the car kits...

I actually have a GN Netcom 6210 bluetooth headset that works with my office phone as well. It is a rebranded Jabra 250.

Perhaps my issues are because the headset is paired to 2 devices?

make sure you have 4.0 handheld software

Posted by: jase88

Are you running handheld software version 4.0?

I doubt the pairing is part of the problem.

Version 4.0.0.160 (platform 1.4.0.27)

I got my phone about 60 days ago - I assume this is the latest software?

Ok let me ask the question this way:

when the BB7520 connects with the headset, it says "headset connection to 'xyz123' established"

when it disconnects, it says "connection to 'xyz123' lost"

Now my question is: should the headset connection ALWAYS be established, or does is connect and disconnect for every individual call?

Also, for you guys with the BT250 headset:

When the handset rings, do you hear the ring in your headset? I do not. Do you just press the button on the headset once to answer a call, or do you have to push twice?

Thanks in advance.

I have the 7100t with the Jabra 250, and they work together great ... the Jabra connects right away when the unit is in range ...

The headset connection should always be established when the two devices are within range, and the headset is not charging (assuming Bluetooth is enabled and you've set the headset as "trusted").

When my Blackberry rings, I hear the ring in my ear through the BT250. If I push the headset button once, it answers the call. I can also answer from the blackberry.

Pushing the BT250 button once while not on a call activates redial.

I suspect there must be a compatibility issue with your 7520 and the headset. It's possible the headset's firmware is different than the Jabra BT250. You appear to be runnig the latest blackberry software.

The problem with bluetooth in general is that certain headsets work well with specific handsets only. Therefore, a bluetooth headset that works great with one phone, may not necessarily work great with other models and vice versa.

I suggest that you check out the Headset and Bluetooth forums to research the best headset for the 7520.

Well that settles it...there's something wrong with my headset/handset combo.

anyone managed to "hack" it to enable auto-answer via BT headset after x rings?

Nextel has the oldest BlackBerryOS 4.0 -- only 4.0.0.160 and it has some known Bluetooth problems.

Right now the Bluetooth GPRS units are currently at least 4.0.0.185 and the Bluetooth CDMA units are at least 4.0.0.204 .... which has fixed several known Bluetooth issues in older versions of BlackBerryOS.

Time to put pressure on Nextel to release a newer BlackBerryOS...

I say it's a Nextel issue, because they have the oldest BlackBerryOS. Switching Bluetooth headsets may help "workaround" the issue, but there's definitely more compatibility issues with the Nextel units.

Have you tried reducing the volume on your device? Test this with a caller: Have them talk as you slowly reduce the volume, and let you know when the echo disappears.

Also, I've read in various reviews that some Motorola headsets will echo when the battery is low...

Scrap the Jabra and go moto...
