I finally found a way to make great quality true tones for the LG8000. THey are every bit as good or better than the GIN True Tones.
First you need to get Audacity to trim and change the audio level I saw a link somewhere but I can't find it. Also on the link there is a plugin so you can imoort or export as mp3.
Load your song into audacity then go to the preferences under the file drop down menu. Set the bit rate to 64 there doesn't seem to be a need to go any higher because you can't really hear the difference, it will also save room on the phone.
One you use the program a bit its easy to trim your song. Trim you song down to 30 seconds or less. There are also some cool effects you can apply to song like fade in or out under the effects menu just select the part of the song you want the edit.
Once you have the song trimed select the whole song and under effects then amplify, change the db to about 6-9 depending on the song, some songs need to be up a little more so they are nice and loud. Uncheck the don't allow clipping box. preview and say ok.
Now you are ready to export the song. Go to File and Export as Mp3. A window will pop up and ask where to save the file. At this point you need to edit the title and add the extension .mid to the song. After you click save a pop up window will warn you that changing the extension may not work in all players are you sure and say yes.
Not sure why you need to change the extension a guy at verizon told me that is what he did and it works great. I sent my phone wav and mp3 before and they sound terrible compared to these.
Last step is to e-mail them to your phone, I have picture messaging so I can send 40 for free. E-mail them to your phone number@vzwpix.com and you can open them and save them as tones

Has anybody had luck trying this? I made about 10 and its has been working great.

Yes. I didn't increase the volume, but I think mine are loud enough.
Audacity is really nice. I got an mp3 from wherever, pick the part of the file I want to use as my ringtone. Cut it to that, maybe even add a ramp up of the volume for the first 10 seconds, then export at 64k.
Good stuff.

How do i save the ringtone. Each time I've tried it says it must be smaller then 30kb and that is a realllllly small file.

I have the same problem. Any bit size over 16k makes the files too big for the phone to save them. 16k makes the file size about 50-68kb depending on length, but the quality of the MP3 is poor. 64k makes the files about 250KB with great sound, but the file is too large for the phone to save.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

When I save my files they are 64 bit rate, and the average size is 300 kb. I have about 20 on my phone no problem storing them. How are you sending them, if your using vzwpix they are to big, but if you e-mail them you can save them no problem. email them to your number@vzwpix.com.

Thank you rich, this has worked out great. I was trying so hard to keep the file size down that I was losing quality fast. You are absolutely right that it will accept the higher file sizes when you email it to your phone. That is awesome

Anybody max out their phone on ringtones yet. I use about 25-30 seconds for the tone at 64bit rate and I have about 20 now. Im just wondering how many I can put on.

hey i did this twice last night and it worked. Now when i send it to my phone, it doesn't recieve the message, the bar only fills about 1/8 of the way every time and then it says "message failure". Any ideas?

I had the same thing happen so I tested it with a picture and that failed also, so I called verizon and she tried to test it. It ended up being a network problem. They fixed what ever was wrong and sent me a pic and it started working again. Haven't had a problem since.

Rich, I'm at my vzwpix limit for the month and don't want to go over, but after May 6 when I get 20 more vzwpix messages I plan on trying to see how many tones I can get on my phone before it runs out of memory. I have 10 on there now. I'm wondering if the memory between pics and ring tones is combined, or if each media has its own allocated memory. If it's all together, you should be able to get more ring tones on the phone if you don't keep a lot of pictures on it.
Anyway, I'll let you know next month when I have more to play with.

Does this apply to the LG VX6100, too?

Im not 100% sure, but I think so. If you can recieve pix messages it should work. The size may be to big, not sure how much room the 6100 has. Its pretty simple to downsize because you don't have stereo speakers on the 6100, so mono would be sufficient.

Ok I am having some trouble with my memory. I had 17 ringtones saved, and I had left some in my messaging inbox. I sent myself one more and I could play it. When I tried to save it, I got the message "memory full" and a picture of a full gas gauge.
I deleted two of my ringtones and I still can't save it. I have searched all over and some tell me I need to get it flashed. Be Carefull of how many tones you save on your phone. I thought I only had about 3.5mb but it must count your inbox as well as saved tones.

Has anybody else experienced this with their LG 8k? If I take my phone to Verizon will I loose all my information in my phone (ex. ringtones, pics, and contacts)?
