RF Quality of Treo 650???

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I performed a search but have seen no substantial comments.

I would like to know how well the Treo 650 GSM is able to hold onto a signal. If anyone can give an honest comparison to phones such as a Nokia 6620, Nokia 6230, or Motorola MPX220 it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I live in a cement house (not really, but close enough). Nokia's have historically been the only phone that can be used, and I've had a bunch of them.

I've had my 650 for about a month and have NEVER dropped a call and quality is excellent. You asked about the 6230 comparison - I sold mine after twp weeks with my 650...'nuf said.

Thanks Ryan.

Ditto here. I've reviewed/used/owned most of the current smartphones currently on the market including the Nokias and the 650 really has very impressive RF on par with the strongest Nokia offerings.

Try this link.

The Treo has a 1.51 "SAR" which is pretty high (it made the top ten list).

I use the Treo 650 and at several locations on my drive home, my prior phones whould drop out. The Treo 650 ketp a signal thorugh a couple of these. It is very good for keeping signals.

Ok, I am convinced, I will order one tomorrow

well, in my building at work, I take a certain elevator each day for past 5 yrs. With my Sanyo VM4500, I can sometime hold a call through the "zone of death" between floors 1 and 2 and 3. Well, I have not been able to hold one call yet with my treo650. Well, just my observation

Hold on, that link above w/ SAR data, for my SPCS Treo 650:
PalmOne Treo 650 1.33 1.5 08FMADECA

the 1.5 figure is for "analog" - does the Treo have analog??? If not, I wonder how accurate are the #'s given.

The 650 does not have analog, only GSM,GPRS and EDGE.

ok. how accurate are the information given then? I didn't think my 650 had analog.

btw does sar rating correlate directly to reception strength ? I am not too sure about this

The Treo 650 does NOT have an analog radio. The SAR rating is for the GSM radio. There is often a corresp. between SAR ratings and RF on phones made in the past year, but yes it's possible to build a poorly shielded phone that has a high SAR rating. But the 650 really does have excellent RF.

It's nice to see the positive comments about the RF quality. To me the ability to place and receive a call is most important regardless of what other features the phone offers. I placed my order with AT&T and should have the phone on Friday or Monday at the latest. I have downloaded the file to enable bluetooth tethering so I should be good to go. I look forward to my first Treo
