8900 File structure disables speaker/earpiece?

Alright, this story is pretty weird, if someone could shed some light on why this happened, please let me know.

I have a Audiovox CDM-8900 from Cellular One/Western Wireless. Last week the speaker/earpiece went totally out, it didn't ring for calls/text/voice, and it didn't dial when calling someone, and i could not hear anybody over it. I didn't that it had anything to do with using bitpim or the data cable for a few reasons: 1) I had been using them for the past 3-4 months with no problems, 2) I had done nothing to the phone file-wise for atleast a month, 3) The phone got dropped in the snow about a week and a half before then and was giving me messages like external audio off/on until i charged it up, 4) It had similar problems before all this, but the speaker would not work for about a hour, this time it wasnt working for months.

I tried everything, I deleted all my ringtones and reset everything to factory settings on the phone. I took it up to cell one and they couldn't do anything so told me to just call insurance. I got my new phone from insurance yesterday (a CDM-8910, since they don't sell 8900s anymore). Anyway I started putting everything from my old phone to my new phone. Afterward I decided to clean it up and replace the files i had changed with the originals i had backed up (CameraState, default_sms_tone, download_snd). So then when I restarted it after overwriting the files, it starts playing the little music and start up. I checked the ringers and they were working again, I also tried making a call and it dialed (of course, i just got a message since the phone has been deactived).

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this before?
