Did a search, couldn't find anything.
How loud is the ringer volume?
Can I use MP3s as ringtones?
How good is the vibrate?
Thanks in advance.

Lots of complaints about the ringer volume. In the holster it is not very loud. Outside it is not as loud as it needs to me.

Nope, mono Midi files only.
Great if you wear it using the holster. In a bag/purse/briefcase, it does very little

On the 7290, how is the call quality?
Do you hear lots of noise generated from the radio (buzzing) or from the backlight (whining) in the earpiece?
I don't mean background noise pickup. I'm pretty careful not to be in noisy areas like a steel mill or a nightclub when I make calls.
My experience with the 6280 was really kind of mixed in this regard to "noise" in the earpiece.

7290 call quality is very good. I use a Motorola HS810 Bluetooth headset, and the only time I get comments on the call quality is when it si very windy out (like today).

Ya know, I had the very same thought: One advantage (BIG ONE) the 7290 has is the addition of BT... which I always kind of poo-poohed... but I guess using a bluetooth headset would mitigate the "the Blackberry is too wide to use as a phone" sort of feeling.
I'll have to scour the boards for BT to 7290 reviews now. I'm guessing with the bluetooth headset, you don't get any oddball interference other than background hiss and cracking if you get too far away, right?
I've always liked that SE model 660 with the caller ID screen... hm.... The possibilities...

My experience with the 7290 and Bluetooth is that the device appears to inject some sort of high-pitched squeal into the outgoing audio (only while using a bluetooth headset). Your callers may describe this as interference. The noise cannot be heard by yourself. I've tested this with 3 different 7290's on Rogers Wireless and with 3 different headsets (Jabra BT250, HBH-300 and Logitech); all with the same result. Upgrading to version 4.0 of the handheld software did not fix the problem. I wonder if the GSM transmitter is causing interference with the bluetooth radio?!
When using the Blackberry itself as a phone, you do hear a slight "whine" while the backlight is on. This is true of all blackberries that I've used (7280, 7780, 7290, 7250). I have never found this issue to be terribly bothersome--in fact, I hardly notice it now. This problem doesn't occur while using bluetooth or a wired headset.
Background noise is always an issue with GSM blackberries; regardless if you're using bluetooth or wired headsets, or the blackberry itself. I found that using the device in quiet outdoor areas still had my caller wondering why there's so much noise. Background noise competes with your own voice--driving your callers crazy. I suspect that this problem is more inherent with GSM rather than the device itself. My CDMA 1X 7250 sounds great--so good that it's my phone too.
Note that certain bluetooth headsets have proven effective at reducing the background noise (most notably the HBH-300).
