FREE RINGTONES thanks to vzw

Hey, I was browsing around verizon's site, and came across this...

http://vzw.ztango.com/vzwtones

It's verizon's website for it's GIN program "VZW Tones," in which you can browse all the ringtones they have for free...

So what do you do? If you notice the little headphone icon, it's the mp3 of that ringtone...being a smart individual as yourself, you would save this to your computer and use your handy USB cable (or www.funformobile.com) to transfer it to your phone.

Thank you

Posted by: AZSKYRIDER

Or just enter the full MP3 address in your T-zone web browser and it auto downloads and asks you to apply it as a ringtone.

Don't know if there are any charges

Posted by: AZSKYRIDER

seems now VZW wants you to sign in.

Posted by: topshooter

still works for me

Posted by: websurfer68

Ok, so how do you save that as a MP3? I didn't have that option. I found the fun mobil site tho.

click the headphones, at least try, sheesh

Posted by: AZSKYRIDER

They are already MP3. Don't you see the extention? If you have T-zones then type the full path of the URL into your wap browser and it will download it auto.

Posted by: Whoosyer Daddy

I can't seem to receive them on my phone. According to http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=524526 you can email them to yourself as an attachment, but I was not able to receive it. I even tried going through www.funformobile.com and the message will arrive into my phone, but if I try to connect to the file or attachment, it says "network authentication failed". Anybody else have this problem?

TIA!!!

Posted by: topshooter

send it as email attachment through POP3, no hotmail no aol no yahoo

Posted by: AZSKYRIDER

sorry for the newbie question but what service can I use that has pop3? I have yahoo, hotmail, and netscape.

Posted by: JohnDaddyo

working for a cable/broadband company I always found it crazy that people would get high speed and then imediately sign up for Hotmail
etc. Probably the fault of the installers for not educating and setting it up at install for the customers.

Who do you pay for your high speed internet? RoadRunner? Verizon?

1.) loose your Hotmail or Yahoo account. They are soooo limited in features.
2.) call your providers tech support if you need to and have them set you up to use Outlook Express or Outlook if you have Office installed.
This will set you up as a "POP" account.

You're really missing out on a MUCH better email system than hotmails etc.

I believe my email is POP3. I'm using MS Outlook and a comcast.net email address. Any other ideas?

Thank you!

Posted by: JohnDaddyo

not sure if I understand what you're trying to do ...?

download from a website and then send to your phone?
or the reverse??
none of the above???

if you're downloading tones from that site, it's easy to get them on your
phone with a cable and the free BitPim program.
Take your phone to Radio Shack or Verizon and get a cable??

Posted by: Whoosyer Daddy

Yes, I actually have the .MP3 (or MID) file on my hard drive (already downloaded) and was trying to do it without a cable. I guess that's what I'll have to do. According to other sources though, it sounded like I could just email it to myself as an attachment. I'm bummed that it won't work w/o a cable.

Thank you so much for trying to help me!

Posted by: JohnDaddyo

you will not be disapointed with the cable/BitPim method.
I like the idea of being able to control the transfers of mp3's
and wallpapers.

now who is going to answer my "Q"

from your phone, if you want to send something, can
you select an email address from your Contacts the
same way you would a phone number?
quite tedious to manually type out email addys.

Posted by: Whoosyer Daddy

When you go to compose a new TXT Msg or new PIX Msg, you'll see To[Address 1]. If you hit the left soft key, and then Contacts, it will take you to Find Name. From there, you can choose the email address or phone number right from your address book.

Thanks again for your replies above!

i can't get through to any other links on that VZM get tones site, i can dl the 'what's new' stuff but other than that, it keeps rerouting me to some other verizon site? is this happening to other people?

Posted by: JohnDaddyo

ok my "fellow Daddy"

when I choose Message/New Pix Message/Add (left soft key/Contacts/
and select someone, I only have the option to check a box and it's a phone number.

what I discovered though is...
if I choose an email address first, I am then given the options to
go to my Gallery etc and Send.

welll, let me add that after about 5 mins, the email has not come thru.
gonna try again.

final edit...

they both came thru.

I tried to send a mp3 ringtone to my v710 and when it arrives...its been converted to a qpc file. any answers? I have done this in the past with other ringtones and it worked.....just not now....help

Posted by: JohnDaddyo

hmm, obviously you're not using a cable and BitPim?
maybe it's me but that is really the only way to go.
not really the only way technically but it's nice and
easy at least.

Posted by: mytwocents

Wow.....GREAT FIND! Sure I've been making my own tones, but it's about 100 times better when they're already edited and optimized for the phone's use.....

THANKS!

I had discovered that VZW site and had downloaded a number of the songs that are now saved on my hard drive. Used Audacity to check one of the mp3 files and it shows it as 22050, mono, 32 bit which I think is what I need for the 3200. I just got a data cable and BitPim and all is hooked up and working well. I'm just not sure how to go about getting one of the downloaded mp3's from my hard drive to my phone using the cable & bitpim. I have read and printed out the tutorials and remain a little confused. I had downloaded/paid for 1 music file from Vtext and used save object to put a few copies of that ringer in the My Melodies folder. I had tried one thing where it said to rename the mp3 on the hard drive to mediamelxxx.dat (ie name it the same as a mediamelxxx.dat file in your sms directory in Bitpim). and then to overwrite the mediamelxxx.dat file in the sms directory with the new file that you want. That resulted in a locked file that I now cannot delete, overwrite or do anything with in BitPim. The file doesn't actually show up on the phone, but BitPim shows that it is there.

So, am being a bit more cautious before I dive in again and would be most grateful for any specifics you can offer. And by the way, if anyone knows how to get rid of that locked file in BitPim, I would be most happy to hear how. Thanks!

Posted by: mischief316

Well I got it working for me. The thing is I dont know how to make the ringtone repeat. Lets say the ringtone last about 7 secs, after that, the phone just vibrates, and wont repeat the ringtone. Does anyone know how to make it repeat??

Posted by: anakin23

I'd actually rather use my own.

Have you heard those on the phone??? They sound like CRAP! I mean seriously....horrible.

Posted by: MADmegs1

Sooo I know this is prolly the most noob question I could ask, but how do you go about saving the VZW Mp3's to your computer??

Posted by: robm3725

actually you need to go to this VZW link

http://getitnow.vzwshop.com/index.a...=music_ringback

it only works if you use this ringback tone link.
right click on the headphones and hit copy link location.
paste it in the http// browser. you should see something like this.

javascriptlayMedia('http://63.251.81.164/DATA/AUDIO/0/02/18/00218995.WMA','Make It Rain','Fat Joe featuring Lil Wayne','00218995','RBT');

delete everything before the 63.251 and everything after the .WMA

now all you will have is

63.251.81.164/DATA/AUDIO/0/02/18/00218995.WMA

open up the link and it will play the song. play it using windows media player and you will now be able to save it.

how to set an mp3 as a ringtone or even save the file on your phone with no cables or memory cards.

you will need to sign up for vzw pix place (free and easy sign up)
click----> www.vzwpix.com

after you have signed up, go to your Email.

you will need to email your 10-digit phone number at vzwpix.com

(1234567890@vzwpix.com)

attach your ringtone to the E-mail you can leave all text blank in the message.
I have attached ringtones in mp3 format just over 1mb and had success.

I uses creative wave studio to cut ringtones from full mp3's.
you can also download them from just about anywhere.

are you talking about the ringback tone link ?

if so, RIGHT CLICK ( not left click ) on the headphones and hit copy link location.

paste it in the http// browser. you should see something like this.

Posted by: davondab

What is T-Zone??

Posted by: davondab

Can these be used for the LGVX9900??? Can I make my own ringtones for the VX9900 PERIOD???

Posted by: bencline

When using a transflash card, what folder do you save the ringtones as? I'm having trouble with that. I put them in a couple folders, hoping one of the two would work, but no luck.

worked for me last night ,now they changed the preview to quick time...damn

Posted by: bencline

I gave up on transferring them. I used www.mobile17.com and love it. Takes some time if you do it at night, but if you get your requests in early in the morning, it's fairly fast. And you get your own customized tones from your own songs. Trillville - Some Cut, Peanuts Theme, Scat Man Remix, Ginuwine - My Pony, Ludacris - Georgia, Led Zepplin - Black Dog, 3-6 Mafia - Poppin' My Collar, Beastie Boys - Intergalactic, Dre - Keep Their Heads Ringing and B****es Ain't S*** (which I probably won't use). But with being free, and only having to wait a little while, it's fine with me.

Oh, and tried it on my mom's LG VX5200, but you can't save your sounds as ringtones. WTF is up with that? Why do you have them if you can't use them for ringtones? Didn't sound good on her phone anyway. Everything was scratchy.

Posted by: msuspartans#1

For the ringback tone site if you click on the headphones then right on the song while its playing then go to properties you can get the thing that robm3725 told you to do to save it as .wma

WATUP.....

Answer is YES/YES... I've just tried this with my 9900 and it works fine. The sound quality of the ringtones arent that great tho, as someone already said. The cool thing tho is, you can search for any artist you want. Actually they have a pretty impressive amount of artists listed.

All you have to do is left-click on the song or artist. It then prompts you to save or open. You then click save, and save it to your folder where you store your ringtones, ONLY, put a .mp3 at the end of the title, and save.

NOW YOUR DONE....

Open bitpim, locate the file, transfer it to your 9900..

And yes, you can make your own ringtones, but theres about a billion threads on how to do it, so Im sure youll find one...

GL HF..
