Hi guys!
I'm planning to upgrade my P270c for the new kyocera and I was wondering if it could compare... How tuff it is? I almost kill my P270c after 9 months only... And where do you go for firmware upgrade? is there any place in Mtl? All this cause I really don't know anything about kyocera handset... general build quality? warranty? and how loud the earpiece is... that's very important for me... is it compare with startact?
thanks!
Paul

Funny you mention the upgrade to the kyocera from the Mot 270 since I also have the mot 270 and will be buying the kyocera this friday. The 270 is a great phone but after a year its time to go. Too big for my liking. If I get time this weekend I'll post all the info you may need.

I wouldn't advise moving to the 5135. I have tried them and the ringer is WAAYYY to quiet (on side of flip), and as for being able to take a beating, don't hold your breath. I'm in a 270 now...........holding on till later.

Low ringer? You must have had a faulty phone.
5135 has a good ringer... no quieter than most phones out there.

Well, i've had this phone for about 3 weeks now and here are my observations:
ringer
: excellent loudness, can't do ring & vibrate at the same time (that kinda sucks) you can also get new ringtones from the bell site.
other features:
Game: well, i played around with the phone for a few hours while stuck on a ferry, the game on the phone blows! well, it's not a bad game, however it's got LOTS of bugs, including score getting reset randomly, keys that are too close to the exit buttin (can only use the arrow keys which are tiny). oh, and it actually froze my phone! nothing would work, not even the power button!!!!
i eventually had to take out the battery to restart it!!!!
Alarm
: blows, it's SOOO quiet it couldn't wake up a baby! and it shuts off after something like 10 seconds.
"look": i've had many people who've liked the way it looked, and especially the blue light.
Reception: EXCELLENT, sound is crystal clear even with 0 bars on digital :-) also seems to work in a lot of places where rogers didn't. (also doesn't look like pulling out the antenna makes any sort of difference)
durability:dunno, haven't dropped it yet
has most of the "regular" features i've com to expect from cell phones :-)
overall i like it, but i can't wait for the new firmware

Ok so I gess it's my turn to tell about it.
I'm on my first or second week with it and here's my personnal appreciation of the Kyocera 5135.
Look and Style
------------------
No doubt on it; it is pretty awesome. Me too I received many comments on it starting with ooohhh or han?!
No doubt it have class and style. It's so different than my old mot.
Weight is a point that many friend who tried mine reported to me; so lightweight and so small. it's really amazing.
It feel so much and it look so much like it's similar cousin the motorola V60c... same style same look sometime I found myself thinking that it's a V60 lower-end model.
RF Performance
-------------------
No drop call to date and reception seam pretty good. I won't start any comparaison with rogers or fido or whatever cause it's too relative with the physical emplacement so it's pointless. But, if I compare it with my old mot. I didn't see or expirent any difference. That is good as far as I'm concerned. Ah and I never pull up the antenna; don't need it yet.
Features
-----------
I didn't experiment on this side too but still again everything seems ok for me. Maybe I'm not too demanding afterall and V120 is the model I should have choose hahahaha...
The only game I've tried on it was not funny cause the arrows-key are too close together...
I also remark that the battery tend to be a micro-bit flimpsy and you can actually feel it moving when you dial numbers on the keypad. I'm wondering how many years it can do this but only time will tell us
The earpiece is loud enough but not very loud as the startac. It will work in most situation, on a noisy street or in the car with a broken muffler (like mine) but it doesn't compare with the startac.
The tactical feedback of the numeric keyboard is good and it make a nice click. And about battery performance? I'd say 2-3 days with an average of 15-20 mins talking every day. Maybe more I guess.
Conclusion
--------------
For this price, it's the most nice-looking handset you can get in bell stores. It rocks and its classy like the V60c for a third of its price. And still for this price, rf performance seem great, earpiece is very good, it have a *nice* blue blacklight and battery life is pretty decent too. What else can you expect for a 150$CAD hanset?
