Info: - Firmwares are the software of your cellphone... (the windows / linux of your phone )- Firmwares are being improved all the time and little known bugs (like the kalenderbug in old versions) are fixed in newer firmwares. - Firmwares can sometimes be changed (modded) by 'hackers'. That way you can modify the entire phone as long as you have the right programs and knowledge - Those (modded or newer) firmwares can be flashed into your phone replacing the old firmware. - The D500 does not have voice-dialing/voice-commands. TIM a italian provider had his own branded unique firmware which DID have voice-dialing/voice-commands (D500E). So you can flash that firmware if you want those futures. Unfortunately that's an older firmware with some bugs. At the time of this writing there is not yet a way to remove those but I know for sure that there will be one in time. What has been done is removing the annoying branding of TIM so now you can flash the 'unbranded' software to your D500 and make it a D500E with voice-dialing/voice-commands. * Firmwares are shown as: examples: D500CEEB3 or D500AIDK6 type *#1234# in your phone to see which firmware you have. D500 stands for the type of samsung phone CE / AI = branding type or coutry/region (CE is western europe, AI is TIM branding etc) E / D = Year of the firmware release (D=2004 E=2005 F=2006 etc) E / K = Month of the firmware release (A= januari B=februari....L=december) 3 / 6 = revision number of the software in that month (example CEEB3 is 'newer' than CEEB2) Flashing: 1) Buy a serial cable and a 9v battery: for example at http://allgsm.co.uk/product_info.ph...9cd7e735c2b9936 Not expensive and they deliver fast (england to holland 5 days!!) 2) Download the firmware you want to flash (must be 3 files: a tfs a cfg and a bin or cla file) See for nice firmware downloads: * http://avi-stuff.irde.to/files.php?catid=116 * http://www.samsung-stuff.de (look in the database) * http://www.samsungworld.net/forum/index.php * http://www.cell-base.com/4free/files.php 3) The flashing : - Remove simcard, and make sure you have a fully charged battery (of phone) - Connect the cable to the phone and attach 9v battery to cable. - Open corona downloader and hit start. (it will say to power on your phone) - Push phone 'on' button shortly. - Files are being read. (about 30 sec) - You now can do a NOR and NAND backup if you want but you can skip this step. If you do you will get a 30 mb and a 128 mb .hex file. Rename the 30 mb to .cla and the 128 mb to .tfs and you have your own backup. - Press the 'format' button under NAND flash. (takes about 15 sec). Do this or you will have empty 0 kb pictures in your picture maps which you can not delete in your phone. (If you do not erase the NOR flash all names/numbers will not be affected, your mms and wap settings will be lost!! So write them down before flashing) - Select 'tfs+bin' and in the browse buttons select the .tfs file and the .bin (or .cla) from the firmware you want to put in your phone. - Now hit download. - Wait for about 3 hours and your done. The program will say when it's done. That's all folks Enjoy... Greetz Merten |
| The only thing that i have discovered is that you can flash the fone with a usb cable using CoronaDownloader_v32. (Select the correct com port for your usb cable - mine was com 6 and set the com speed to 921600) It cuts flash time to around 20mins compared with 90 mins by serial cable. (And does away with 9v battery). |

As for the 115200, 230400, 460800 or 921600 numbers, those just refer to the Modem speed it would be used on if it was being used as a phone modem. |
. I checked with google and found USB virtual COM port drivers - will the cable be supplied with this driver?
