Ebay and the Audiovox SMT5600

Hi, i am looking to buy an Audiovox SMT5600 for my wife and just wondered if anyone could recommend a good ebay seller. I've done a search but the prices vary from about $250-$320 and looking at their feedback none of the sellers seem to have actually sold the phone recently. Is it still a good buy considering there may never be a firmware upgrade for it in the future? I have considered the Imate SP3i from Expansys but am concerned about the joystick issue. My main concern is getting a reliable phone with good battery life, as its for my wife there wont be too much extra software going on it. TIA

Hi,

There are no reputable sellers who sell regularly the SMT5600 because these are not dealers. They are normal customers got the SMT5600 and now selling it. No one is going to provide you with firmware update other that Audiovox/UTStarCom so that should not be a consideration. Even who got it from AT&T will not get the ROM upgrade from any one other than manufacturer.

I say - feel comfortable with a seller and price, go for it. That's all.

If you can wait about a month then I would hold out and see if they release it for Cingular which has been rumored for awhile. Users have been able to flash the 5600 to the c500 rom so if they do release the phone for Cingular I'm sure in time someone will make the rom available..

what do you think of it so far?

I'm thinking about getting one of these, cause I love the smartphone and I am getting very sick of my mpx220.

I just wish it was a flip...

Derek, I have placed bids under that same seller.

What shipping method did he use?

Was the phone indeed "brand new" as he describes. ?

Did you unlock it yet?

I have a used SMT5600 it has been unlocked and will work with cingular or T-mobile . I got a MPx220 through work so I don't need it. I needed the 900 MHz band for frequent chips to China so I can't use it. This may be the wrong place to mention it. It also has a few scratches. I have the original box and CD and charger. Headset may be missing. PM me with an offer if you are interested.

He shipped me by Priority Mail. I unlocked my the day I got it and use it on TMO. Took me sometime to configure Tzone, MMS, and email. All working now. I can browse regular websites on my phone just using 4.99 tzone. Cool! It works great! I love it. Selling my K700i

Forgot to mention. It is NEW but branded to AT&T. So you do have to unlock it. I paid around $38 to unlock it online.
