1) make your own thread instead of bumping a year old thread.
2) what phone is it for, and where did you upload it to?

my dad is also trying to get a ringtone on his v3i. He is using iTunes for the song (m4a format or somthing) and i am using bluetooth file transfer on his mac. It says the formar is not supported, what formats are supported?

get a converter and convert it. i lowered the bit rate and cut the song down

how do i make my own thread? its a razr v3 and i put it in audio on the phone.

Have a V3 (Black) and am using Moto Phone Tools.
I have had no problem using the built in media option (on tools) to cut a 10+ second sequence out of songs (including 320) and load into my RAZR and use as a ringtone.

when you load sounds via P2K... you also need to delete the two .db files in the audio folder and restart the phone to make the sound show up in the ringtone list.

iTunes IS a free converter. It can make a custom MP3 ringtone of whatever Start-Stop time you choose within the song (might want to limit it to 30 seconds or so), convert it to any rate from 16-320 (96 works for me) and even make it mono instead of stereo to cut the actual size in half (now my 30 second tones are 240k) but keep the same quality. Works for me on my V3. With iTunes open on your Mac, go to the iTunes menu > Preferences > Advanced > Importing. There you see a drop list for Settings. Choose Custom... Off you go, now.

To make the selection of song segment in iTunes, click once to select the song in the library list. Then File > Get Info. In the Options tab, choose the start time / stop time. You will do it custom for each song. Back in the library list, with the original song selected, go to Advanced menu > Convert selection to MP3. After a few seconds, you will have your ringtone with new name of "Light_MY_Fire1.mp3" or whatever.

ok i need alot of help. i have a cingular razr v3. my computer doesnt have bluetooth. i want some new ringtones and i have no idea how to send ringtones to my phone. can somebody please help me?

Think of your phone as a tiny computer with a tiny drive. You need software that connects your computer to phone via USB 2.0 to make a tiny network and then you copy ringtones (MP3 files) from your computer to the /a/mobile/audio/ directory on your phone. Here is one way to make ringtones using iTunes (free download for Windows or Mac):

Note-- These menu choices are based on my Mac version. If you have the Windows version it may vary slightly. With iTunes open, go to the iTunes menu > Preferences > Advanced > Importing. There you see a drop list for Settings. Choose Custom... Now change the rate to whatever you like. 96 is good for even the best of phones. Don't mess with the equilizer options or you may destroy the phone speaker. Choose mono to cut the file size in half without affecting quality. For 30 second ringtones, the files will range in size from 150-210k. Use this setting for making a bunch of ringtones and then set iTunes back to your high-rate setting. Otherwise all future song imports will be mobile phone quality.

To extract a segment of a song in iTunes, click once to select the song in the library list. Then File > Get Info. In the Options tab, choose the start time / stop time. You can choose to the 1/100th of a second if you are of a mind, but, hey, it's only a ringtone, not a Superbowl ad soundtrack. You will do it custom for each song. I suggest 10-30 seconds. It should loop at the end anyway. Back in the library list, with the original song selected, go to Advanced menu > Convert selection to MP3. After a few seconds, you will have your ringtone with new name of "Light_MY_Fire1.mp3" or whatever. Play it to see if you are satisfied with the edit. Trash it if you are not and then tweak the segment start/stop time again.

Without Bluetooth, take your phone to a well-stocked computer shop and get a USB cable that fits your phone on one end, standard computer USB connector on the other. I paid $1.25 here in China but you will pay 10-20 bucks in the U.S.
For Windows: To transfer the ringtones to the phone, get Motorola Phone Tools if you want Motorola online help and the experts in this forum to give you pointers along the way. Otherwise, you should expect to waste time if not money learning some other application.

For Mac OS X: Get Moto4lin ported to Mac from:
http://phlo.im-all.net/moto4lin-cvs/
The play-by-play guide is provided at:
http://www.themotoguide.com/index.p...PGID=DxzmOgpfuK
You will need to use Terminal (already in your Mac system) as a command line input to find the phone's USB ID and paste it into the window of Moto4lin since the application has not been developed to detect it automatically. Sometimes it fails to connect. Try again or power phone off-on and try again. After you have successfully transferred the ringtones, delete MyToneDB.db and TempToneDB.db to give the phone a chance to make new database files that refer to the new ringtones. Click to Update List and you will see the ringtone names. Choose to disconnect and then power off-on the phone.

Done with computer. In the phone MyStuff area, find Sounds. Select a ringtone, push the middle softkey to see the menu of things you can do. Choose Apply As Ringtone, right softkey, choose the line (Line 1 if you have only one line), right softkey. In the Addressbook, choose an entry, right softkey, right softkey again, select Ringer ID, change.

There are also web sites that can transfer MP3 files to your phone if you give them your phone number. I don't like to give out my number. Could get into the hands of a phone spammer. But if you want to take a chance, search web for "motorola ringtone upload".
