Cingular treo 650 with 01.15 firmware

Has anyone tried the 01.15 firmware on the Cingular Treo 650?
I thougt I read a post somewhere that it enables the DUN and allows keyboard diming?

Posted by: sbuko

My Cingular branded phone is unlocked and running f/w 1.15 and software Treo650-1.06-ROW.

Posted by: craigg

My unlocked AT&T version is running 1.15 and soon to be 1.21. DUN is now available without the hack and it works perfectly.

how are your treos so up-to-date.. my cingular treo650 only has firmware 01.05 and software Treo650-1.04CNG

Posted by: craigg

It is because we flashed the phones to the newest version. The version you have is the latest currently offered by Cingular.

So, if I get a Cingular branded Treo 650 from a Cingular store or but it online from them, they will have the latest version of firmware?

Posted by: craigg

All Cingular branded phones have the 1.05 firmware. Those of us who have flashed our Treos are using non branded firmware....basically the equivalent of buying an unlocked phone directly from Palmone with the exception that the firmware update doesn't remove the subsidy lock. I was able to get the unlock code from Cingular but others have had mixed results. I am including the links below for the newest software versions. I am using 1.15 and it works well. I have not tried v1.21 personally but others have and they are very pleased

Palm Treo v1.15

Palm Treo v1.21

I just upgraded to the 1.21 today. Speaker is louder. Earpiece may be a bit louder, but not much. I used to have a really bad hissing noise in my earpiece when at max volume. It is gone with 1.21.

for those of you who upgraded your firmware on your cingular or ATT phones i have a couple of questions as i'm not sure how these firmware upgrades work..

1) after the upgrade, does the gprs settings carry over or do you need to create a new one so that it knows to use cingular gprs? does it automatically pick up those settings the next time you try to connect?

2) if i backed up my treo to a sd card, after doing the upgrade, can i just do a restore? or will a restore also restore back the old firmware?

thanks...

has anyone tried this firmware on a locked phone whether its ATT or cingular? seems like the 2 people here that tried it did it to their unlocked phones. i'm sure it wouldn't matter but i was to be sure. thanks

I managed to get around to installing verion 1.21 and it is working fine so far. There is no real difference between 1.15 and 1.21 except that I have noticed that I have more free memory with v1.21.

In response to the questions about upgrading a locked phone, it has been done by quite a few users over on the treocentral board with no problems reported.

Hit the green phone button, then the menu button in the upper right area. Tap Options and then Phone Info.

This will show your IMEI #, S/N, F/W & S/W versions.

thanks for the direction, i was lost w/o it..... so according to what u guys r saying, even if i flash the firmware and software to different ones, the subsidiary will still stick...... correct? thank you, have a gd nite.

sheit....my 650 is rolling in at Firmware-01.04, software-treo650-1.02-CNG.....if I upgrade the firmware, will I still keep my Xpress mail and all the cingular stuff? I kinda need the xpressmail for work and stuff, you know?

Posted by: swerv

you can download xmpressmail from cingular again.. but yeah if you do the 1.21 upgrade, which will be the best thing ever, since it runs so nice... you end up with a unbranded stock palmone treo 650... still locked if urs was originally.

I heard you can get it at https://xpressmail.cingular.com/

Posted by: islandsnow

if say you install firmware 1.21, and something goes wrong and your treo doesn't turn on or work, can you then install 1.15? does anyone have the original firmware that came with the locked cingular/ATT treo backed up somewhere if you really wanted to roll all the way back?

I am not as technically on top of things as some of you. I would like to take advantage of the new Firmware Update and have a couple of clarifications to ask?

1) If I get the firmware update, are all of the programs and settings lost in the Treo 650?

2) I installed the Good Messaging system for work purposes, will that remain or be lost after the update?

3) Do I have to ask Cingular for some kind of code if I install the Firmware update or does the phone reconnect to them without intervention?

Thanks for your patience in sharing this information. This forum is great.

OKAY here it goes:
1- Yes. Basically you have to do a HARDRESET or at least have enough space for the update to copy itself on to the treo. Answering another post, no you really can't go back, becasue no one has the oem cingular firm/soft. Also you guys have to understand that the updated stuff, especially 1.21 and now 1.23 really change stuff, in terms of stability, battery, voice quatlity. Going back would defeat the purpose. My locked cing 650 with 1.21 is every way better then before, and before i wasn't one of the people complaing.

2- Yes goodlink will be lost. You will have to go through the prop procedures of getting it back on from your office IT etc....

3- No code. Actually even the gprs/edge settings are preset, the OS actually apprently knows through the sim which network your on, and automatically goes into the preset settings for Cingular. However normal phone use, no codes necessary. Your on GSM friend... welcome from the cdma secret society of codes and proprietary dribble.

Basically If you seriously don't have the guts to stomach it all right now... don't. I did it, it worked flawlessy. goto shadowmite.com and treocentral.com and really read up on everything you can, be familiure with the way it all works, and what ROM/RAM is... what SOFTWARE and FIRMWARE are.. and also make sure buddy, that you always keep aware of which Treo650 are you looking at. Theres a specific differences between CDMA and GSM treo's.

After this post, which I hope gets bumped, so everyone may read, i didn't notice whether you, pek01, is on CDMA (Sprint) or GSM(anything else) Treo. But im sure this is all helpful nevertheless.

The reply in the prior thread was not accurate. You will not lose any programs or settings if you back them up first either via a sync to your desktop computer or by using a backup program such as Backupman which is free to try. Also, you can go back to a prior version as I have done it. I have an unlocked AT&T Treo 650, first I upgraded to 1.15, then to 1.21, and then I downgraded back to 1.15 because the handset and headset volume were better for me with 1.15. You can't go back to the original AT&T/Cingular firmware unless you know someone that can provide it for you. I may try 1.23 but as of now I am very happy with v1.15.

Yeah obviously if you sync or back up... you won't loose anything. the OP to my reply didn't ask that. Essentially you do loose everything after a hardreset or upgrade unless you back up/hot sync.....

didn't know one can go back though....

I have a locked Cingular Treo 650. If I upgrade to 1.23, will I still be able to sync over the air via ActiveSync? Or is ActiveSync tied to the Cingular branded version?

Posted by: pek01

Thanks so much for the reply to my posted questions. I am a Treo 650 Cingular user and obviously GSM. I am going to do the upgrade to 1.23 and get some of the cool features working that seem to be struggling on 1.05. Nice to have this forum and the input!

Ok, one more question.
I'm planning to buy a Cingular branded treo 650 this week from a Cingular store here in Fremont, CA. Will it be updated to all this new firmware or do I have to do it myself?
In other words does cingular updates their Treo 650 or not?

Posted by: pek01

I purchased mine last week from Cingular in Southern CA and it and the firmware was 1.05 and not 1.23.

I usually customize all my phones but just haven't had time with the Treo 650 I have on Cingular.

I have Firmware: 1.04
and S/w: Treo650-1.02-CNG

so it seems i'm way out of date.

I noticed when I had both a cdma treo 650 on sprint and this cingular one at the same time that the sprint treo 650 had a whiter and brighter screen but I when I asked the reps in the store they lied and said it looked the same to them even though I could see with my own eyes it wasn't.

Yes this was at same brightness setting exactly. I got over this but now it seems the speakerphone is so low even on highest volume that I have to hold it to my ear anyway making it useless. I dont remember the sprint treo 650 being that low volume on speakerphone.

regardless which fw and sw update is going to give the highest volume speakerphone 1.15 or 1.21, 1.23?

I think i have 1.15 dl'd but where can i get the other 2 and sorry to sound dumb but how do I flash it. If you could just refer me to a link with instructions that would be fine if anyone is too impatient to explain what is supposed to be like common knowledge on this thread.

Where can I get 1.21? I have tried 1.15 and 1.23 and my speakerphone is not any louder/better and I still hear some slight static/hissing in background.

Isn't 1.23 supposed to have improved earpiece and speakerphone volume? So is it just my phone? It has been like this since i got it and its only a couple month old. I also noticed that the sprint version of the treo 650 i had at the time had a whiter and brighter screen when yes set on same brightness setting. Did i get a bad Treo 650?

Will Cingular replace?

how much louder is the speakerphone with 1.21? I really wish it was better but like i said 1.15 and 1.23 didn't improve it at all that I could notice
