LG 5550 Bell Mobility *DATA CABLE WORKING*

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello all,

After lots of searching the web (and banging my head against the wall), I finally figured out how to upload ringtones and wallpapers to a Bell Mobility LG 5550!!!!!!

Follow the tutorial on connecting to your LG 5550 to get connected to your LG 5550 with Bitpim ( (here )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR ENTIRE TREE BEFORE CONTINUING! You are working directly in your phones filesysem. (follow the tutorial for this also)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then browse the filesystem tab.
Create a folder called ams (if it doesn't exist)

add numbered files to this folder that are images or music renamed to 00.dat, 01.dat, 02.dat....etc.

then create a .gcd (just a text file with .gcd as the extension) for each with the same number and with the following content:

Content-Type: image/png
Content-Name: 310: DisplayName
Content-Size: 11978

Make sure that you change the content-size to the size the .dat file is showing in bitpim.

Make sure that you also change the content-type: to the right type (eg. image/gif, image/jpg, image/bmp, audio/midi,...)

You should have a .dat and a matching .gcd for each item.

The last step is to create a 'currentinfo' file that contains the information about these files. See the attached contentinfo.

Copy the first line if you want to add an image.
Copy the second line if you want to add a ringtone.

Change the 2 names for each line to the name you want to show up on your phone (picture0 for the first line). Then change the 2 numbers to corrispond to the .dat file number (0 for the first line). The picture in the example is 00.dat and the midi is 01.dat.

Hope this helps!

P.S. if anyone has payed for a game, please post your currentinfo file so I can see how they label games with bell... I haven't figured that one out.... yet.

If this works, then you definitely deserve a pat on your back. Shall try it out in a few min.

Ok I'm stuck at the part where you're talking about the attached contentinfo file ("currentinfo" typo).

I'm not sure which first/second line you want me to copy. What is the syntax?

I've purchased a game from bell and I can gladly post the contentinfo of that.

Alright never mind, I figured it out after I googled it. It works.

I tried to attach the file, but it didn't seem to work. If you can post the one from your bell phone that you have a game on, that would be awsome!

Nice. I'm still looking for Brew 2.0, Java games and apps. Know any good sites?

Any idea what file format the "contentInfo" file is? How do I create it in notepad (ie. what do I save it as)?

TIA

I'm still confused though. What is this contentinfo file and what are the lines?
