SK2 from Ebay w/ FIDO???

I know this topic was talked about for a little bit in another thread but i wanted to make sure!
I bought an unlocked SK2 on Ebay. It's not from T-Mobile though, the seller made clear of that but he never mentioned what provider it was from or if it ever was from a service provider.
Im in Ottawa Ontario and i read someone of another user in the city using a T-Mobile SK2 on the fido network with absolutely no problems (works as if it was purchased from Fido directly?).
Basically im asking for verification from any other Canadians who bought an Sk2 Unlocked from the states or any where else... and is using it on with FIDO with no problems.
Thanks! ^_^ My SK2 should be coming in this week. I have a cute skin for it too and pink bumpers. =P

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say "absolutely no problems". And no, it doesn't work as if it were purchased from Fido directly.
If you have an unlocked T-Mobile device and a Fido simcard you will have a Fido phone number and phone service but your data service will still come through T-Mobile (you'll have a tmail.com email address and everything).
The problem with this (or "problems" as there are a few): 1) You're paying Fido for a data service plan you're using but you're actually using T-Mobile's network and they're not getting paid for it. You're operating on the basic assumption that they won't find out and blow your account away as being fraudulent.
2) If you have data issues, you can't call T-Mobile for help (you're not a customer) and Fido will be unable to help you.
3) An OS update could very likely cause this tenuous configuration to stop working. It relies on the fact that some of the network configuration in the device is hard-coded to the carrier the device is for (and isn't related to the carrier that the simcard sees)
4) You get all the great OS restrictions in the t-mobile OS that Fido doesn't restrict.
If you're on Fido, do yourself a favor and get a Fido hiptop. If you bought a t-mobile device, throw it up on ebay, they're still getting great prices, and get back what you paid for it. I for one don't think this particular setup is worth the risk and/or hassle.

bad idea.
you shouldve asked before buying.
like the dude says sell it and youll get your cash back, minus a few bucks for fees.
I got a ht2 off ebay that was bought from fido (Adn never used).
They'll be there shortly.
Also a few people are selling in the buy/sell/trade forum for gsm phones on HOFO.

bah.. this is a bummer -__-... i didnt really begin to look into forums for the hiptop2 until after i bought the SK2 from ebay. i dont think my SK2 is from T-Mobile tho, because the t-mobile SK2s have the word T-mobile on the side of the screen doesnt it?
the orange on the side says hiptop2 i believe.
does the box for that sk2 come from t-mobile?
mannn... the guy that sold it to me is taking a long time to answer his emails.
i guess i can always resell it on ebay....

No, thats not the box nor device for a T-Mobile sidekick 2 - the fact that it's a hiptop2 and not Fido makes me think that it might be a Suncom device, which is even worse - now that Suncom's network provider (ATTWS) has been bought by Cingular I think they've decided not to support the hiptop anymore.
Well, your seller said it was t-mobile and it's not, you said it's unlocked, which is something I also find odd - Suncom, as far as I know, has never been all THAT eager to provide unlock codes for their devices. Have you verified that it is, indeed, unlocked?

Actually, we can at least verify the identity easily enough ... Boot the device and from the wheel press menu, then Settings, then System Info. on this screen hold the menu button and press the letter M. Scroll down a bit and find an entry called "hiptop OS" and one called "build configuration" - let me know what those are and we can tell for sure what kind of device you have.
if your build configuration is "triton m1" then it's Suncom. If it's "Fido m1" it's Fido.
If it's anything else PM me and I might buy that device from you. :-)
