It's interesting...I'm not much into speculation...however...these two articles are interesting.
Here is a summary for the lazy people in the room.
First aticle states there could be a ROM released for the MPx220 soon. The second states that Magneto will be released soon. Both are probably rumor but it is interesting there are two sources for these and they happen to be happening at the same time. Do you think we'll get the chance to upgrade to magneto whether it be by a official release or by an illeagle one? I hope so.

I have a illegal one but am not going to try to put it on my phone. It states in a readme file that it is kind of unstable.

well, we have all known a rom was coming for atleats 4 weeks so they are quite behind on that.. im starting to wonder though, like one persons post asked if the hardware needed to be changed too and im wondering as far as speakerphone goes, if they would need to put a better speaker in to replace which would be more on the volume scale of the nextel model of phones or if it can simply be a software issue alone? whatever it is hopefully in about 4 weeks they will get that darn rom out

I don't think Motorola is going to risk making the new ROM based on Windows Mobile 2005, after all the problems thay've already got with a stable second-edition OS.
So basically no, no free upgrade to Magneto for us.

Do you think they'll give us the option to buy it

who knows, it might, but i just waiting to see what they fix in the new firmware.. i dont really care bout OS unless its super sweet updates or somthing.

I honestly don't think that Motorola is basing this new ROM off of magneto. The only thing I would like upgraded (software wise) is WMP10.
If you think about it, all of the bugs (pretty much) have been worked out of WM2003SE. Why would Motorola/Cingular want to get involved with magneto this early in the game and run the risk of having a buggy ROM.

Well, it looks like most of the bugs are non-os related and more likely issues with motorola's drivers for their hardware: camera, sound. Okay, maybe a new os will make bluetooth better.
I would love to be able to get Windows Mobile 2005. With its new execute in flash mode, I'll have more free memory to run programs. Caller Photo ID will sync with Outlook. New Media player. New email push support. Hopefully less memory leaky. Well, if the hype is true, this should be a real upgrade compared to the half-hearted ones before.
And microsoft certainly tests their new OSes on current hardware. I read about someone finding an alpha version of Windows Mobile on an mpx200 and more recently on a XDA device. So the OS will work on current hardware. Also, it's not unlikely that the manufacturer helped out on getting drivers for the new OS so Motorola won't be starting from scratch.

I heard that they also tested Magneto on a MPx 220 with modified hardware e.g more memory and a faster processor. Have they really done this...who know since I can't prove it and I have yet to see the device that I am talking about but Magneto is comming and I can't wait!

It is possible to flash the SP3i phones with the new OS. I know someone that has it.

when it comes out im going to upgrade, i hear that the Bluetooth is fully corrected in the new drivers that microsoft is putting into "magneto"... correct me if im wrong but i heard that.

I'll find out in a few days. I've heard it rocks though.

Of course the leaked version is a beta version. I have seen the code for magneto and it is very impressive! I can't wait until they release it. It does look like the BT problems in WM2003 will be solved with magneto, but I can't be for certian since I haven't tested it.

maybe magneto will support Wi-Fi better
Posted by: jcjdoss
That won't help us MPx220 users very much
Posted by: Omega2008
It would if a miniSD wi-fi card was released and WM drivers are developed. Though I am sure it would drain the battery quickly.

I heard that they weren't going to release a minisd wifi card. I wish they would though
Posted by: Omega2008
I don't know if they are or not. They probably won't.
Posted by: xplode
probably not, sucks tho..
