Not sure how large they can be. Someone may know.

Okay after playing around with my P207 and the File Manager software, it can upload some *.jpg images only to the Photos Folder in the phone. I guess some of the *.jpg files I was trying to select the first time, were not supported for some reason as it would give me a message stating so. I decided to try some other *.jpg files from another folder of images I have and they transferred okay.

After having them on the phone, the only way to use them as a wallpaper is by going to the Photos inside of the Camera menu, view it and then select Options, set as wallpaper and then it will be assigned.

Now I just need to figure out the right size width X height in pixels to fill up the screen. My 128 X 128 images are centered and have a good 20-25 pixels on each side. I'll try 160 X 160 and then maybe some 176 X 176 later this evening to see if it fills up the screen.

Unfortunately it's not possible to fill up the screen. Use 176x156 and it will fill up the top, but will not fill up the bottom. You will always have a top and bottom white part.

Has anyone been able to change the font size on their p207, so when a number is entered it is not so large?

I have a P207 ,I went to use it and it was dead so I tried to turn it on and it tries to start but it gets stuck on the opening screen and doesn't make a sound . The Battery was full and I made a call with it about a hour before I opened it to find it dead.
Has anyone had this problem yet ?

Thanks , And have a great day

Posted by: miloshj

I don't understand, how can you make a call with a phone BEFORE you open it?

Posted by: sinlimey

Happy New Year.
I have a unlocked P207, and am using a AT+T SIM card.
I need to find the settings to input to use the internet, download Ringtones and recieve Photo Images.
I have searched various threads with no luck.
Please help me, and please consider that I am not too familiar with programming, if you would be able to give me a step by step guide it would help.

I've got the p207 but it has Rogers plastered all over it I was just wondering if it was possible to flash the p207 with a generic version of it's OS. If so, how? And where can I get the software?

Thanks!!

(If this was already answered, please direct me to the answer, I was a little lazy to search 15 pages!)

I am a cellphone noob, so this question might not even make sense...but from what I gather, you can get free WAP internet for cellphones. Is there any way to get free WAP internet for the P207? That way I guess I can upload the stuff by dialing in or something and using airtime?

You could as long as CSD (circuit switched data) is on your account. Cingular to my understanding isn't allowing it to be added to accounts anymore as GPRS/EDGE is the way they are going.

The P207 already has the CSD settings in the phone, but like I said, if you don't have CSD on your account, you cannot use it or have it use your minutes. You can check the settings by going to Menu > Settings > Connections and selecting Home. Drop down to 7 Dial-up number and you will see it has a+1415xxxxxxx number.

You can read about it in the FAQ Section of the Cingular forums.

Like you guys, I can't find anything to enable the P207 on Easy GPRS. Nothing on the Web, nothing on Ebay, nothing on Samsung.com.

I am a bit of a phone noob, can anyone explain how to put stuff onto the sim?

I thought that was only for storing contacts and messages

The SIM card only holds phonebook entries and limited amounts of SMS messages. It cannot store images or sounds.

When you input the phone number it asks you where you want to put the number, in the SIM, or in the phones memory.

Posted by: southner32

Sorry , It was open when I made the call and it worked fine but when I went to use it again it was dead . Now it gets stuck in the startup program like it needs to reset , The only way I can turn it off is to remove the battery from it otherwise it just stays lockup .

Anyone knows if you can reset this phone ?

Thankfully they have a warranty so just get it warrantied hehe.

how do you email mp3 ringtones to your phone

Posted by: rems26

How do we get the software version of our phone.. and what is the latest version for the Rogers version...?

Posted by: trashmouth12

There are lots of questions on ringtones...from what I know (please someone prove me wrong) the Data Cable does NOT work for sending ringtones...Please post any updates...thnx

(you can buy ringtones from your providers website or using Xingtones)(Download fees per KB will apply)

Posted by: Gem

I just got the phone through Rogers. Can someone answer these questions for me?

#1 Mine seems to only have one ringtone and then I have to d/l more. Is there only 1 ringtone thats comes with the phone

#2 I read mmf formats work with the phone when using a data cable is this true?

#3 can you set the phone for Vibrate and ring at the same time? (not the vibrate then ring thing that the phone has built in)

Thanks

Is the consensus that the usb cable for the p207 will not work at all? I've seen 1 response that says it worked but no others. I have a D500 cable with charging and cannot get it to sync or be recognized by the PC Studio II PIMS. Any suggestions?

Posted by: Mango808

You need to have the right drivers to use the D500/D600 USB cable with the P207 as the D500/D600 USB drivers will not work.

Posted by: Joe Kewl

I do not have a p207, but I was thinking of purchasing one for my GF.

It seems like there is still no way to upload mp3's as ringtones through the data cable, but if you email the mp3 to the phone, can you then use it as a ringtone?

I thought I saw on a t809 thread that if you rename an mp3 to 3gp, you can then send it to the phone, and set it to use as a ringtone. Has anyone tried this for the p207?

Posted by: chrisba

no it doesnt work

emailing mp3 to the phone works but applicable data charges apply e.g. Rogers charges 5cents per KB

No way to disable it in the Settings or Menu. Cingular doesn't want to get sued for any inappropriate photos that could come from a customer taking photos of others without their knowledge.

If it is a Cingular P207, go to Menu > Settings > Connection Settings > Scroll down (or Up) to select Profile9 or Profile0 and Name it something (i.e. No Connect). Don't put anything else in the other fields and Save it.
Next, go to My MEdia > MEdia Net > Settings > then scroll to the Profile you created and select it. Now whenever you press the center button it will just give you a "Host is not found" message and you can just press the Exit button.

No way to put your own ringtones onto the P207 as Cingular has the firmware crippled. You can only download them from Cingular's portal that I know of, but not too sure about other WAPsites.

Thanks, leave it to Cingular. [DOH]

Hi, can someone help me to figure out how to answer telephone calls using the "talk" key? Anytime I get a call, I just flip it open and its on, but I don't want that. I want to press "Talk" to answer calls. Thanks

Oh also, what does "SIM Lock - Enabled" mean? My phone is unlocked..but what would happen if I changed it to "Disable"??

Regarding the wallpaper w/ white borders issue:

I searched but didn't find any other posts relating to this particular workaround, so here it is.

It seems that the Samsung PC Studio II PIMS & File Manager doesn't like anything but JPG files. I attempted to use the Image Editor but it wouldn't go higher than the 128 res, which is way too small. I tried uploading an animated GIF at 176x175 pixels through the File Manager and it wouldn't allow it. I dunno if I'm just blind or what, but I couldn't find a way to add different filetypes to the list. I decided to try uploading the animated GIF to my web server and download it via GPRS. When I set it as my background, there were no white borders.

So, with that in mind, I tried saving one of my usual non-animated wallpapers as a .GIF file, uploaded again and saved the image via the mobile browser. Voila - no borders. Granted, this would be fairly pricey if you have lots of wallpapers to upload and don't have a browsing plan.

I guess the phone by default just puts JPGs in the Photo Album, but when I upload GIF/PNG files it saves them straight to the Downloads folder, and not to the Photo Album.

Then there's the issue that GIFs are not typically recommended to be used as photographs. You can either save it on the highest quality GIF settings, or use PNG, but PNG files can be fairly large (~40-70KB depending), so if you're getting charged a fixed rate per KB it can get expensive.

I haven't tried any other res than 176 x 175, since it seems to fit perfectly.

I still think it's crap that this is the only way I could find to upload a proper wallpaper without borders, but it works. It's quite a bit of leg work, but I used to work in graphics and things like white borders where there shouldn't be any make me crazy. Some people can live with the borders... I was ready to change phones because of them. :P I'm still planning on changing phones soon just because of the other headaches that came with it, but hey... at least the borders are gone.

I have the answer to the first question... to do this go to settings >> phone settings >> extra settings >> uncheck "active folder"..

so, now when someone calls, it doesnt pick up when you flip open the phone.

The best way to transfer songs, games and wallpapers is by GPRS(wap) download. As far as i know, the USB cable doesn't let you transfer those(can't wait until someone writes a a good hack for it). Unfortunately, rogers dings you 5 cents per kb. Myself i get the $7 internet plan which lets you download 1 megabyte per month.

steps to downloading via gprs:
-edit your wallpaper (176 x 175 and save as a .gif >> as somone had previously posted) or ringtone (.mp3).
-upload to a host(any site that allows external linking).
-send yourself an sms with the link(easier this way so you don't have to type out the url on your phone with this rogers sms link:

http://www.rogers.com/english/wireless/sendpcs.html

- once you get the sms, hit save address >> connect to URL and it automatically downloads whatever you're pointing it to.

- this works for midi files (.MID), MP3, JPG, GIF, PNG, JAD, JAR (the last two are game files). I have only come across 2 games that would install into the phone. Most games you find online can only be loaded into the phones they were made for(sony ericson, nokia). If anyone has any P207 specific games, please email me at hubertpham@hotmail.com.. thanks!

if the front lcd was on all the time, your phone would run out of juice really fast. If you need to know the time, just hold the side button for a couple seconds and the screen with the clock pops up.

as far as i know, there is no way to keep the lcd from turning off, although it would be cool if it didn't!

I searched through the last few pages and didn't see anything about a nasty "hissing" noise while on a call. I'm with Rogers and I just got this phone a few days ago. Has anyone else experienced this hiss? The incoming audio is also pretty tinny and I can hear an echo (my voice). While researching the phone, most people said the audio qaulity was good with the exception of a few people mentioning the hiss, but they were all on Cingular. Did I get a defective phone?

Probably just the network/tower in your area that is the cause of the hissing and echo problem. I know that I use to have the echo problem in the same area for a while. Turns out it was a tower issue with the echo cancelling software/equipment that wasn't working correctly and needed to be repaired or reset.

It happens on both GSM/TDMA and CDMA networks with different phones.

Posted by: pham12h

Yup, I'm also on rogers and the reception is so so. Compared to my old samsung a500(cdma), the p207 isn't quite as clear. I do hear a very slight hiss, but its barely noticeable unless i listen for it.

I am a techo-illiterate. I have a Samsung P207 that I just purchased a Samsung hands free earpiece (over the ear) for. When I plug it into the port, I can communicate with someone using the hands free device, but am unable to turn the phone on or off using the one touch button on the device. Is there some setting that I need to make to make this device active, or could it be that the device is defective?

Thanks !!

Posted by: Mango808

The button on the handsfree is to Answer/End the call and not to turn the phone On/Off.

Now if you hold it down long enough it will go into your recent calls list, and you can scroll using the side Up/Down button on the phone until you see the one you want (on the ext screen) and pressing the button on the handsfree device to initiate the call.

I don't think I've ever come across a phone that can be turned On/Off with the wired Handsfree earpiece. I've heard of some of those Family Radios that can, but not a phone.

Posted by: MR.SULU

I get some form of hissing on most calls, especially noticable when on hold to Customer Service. It's the [Rogers] network because I have used 5 different GMS phones and they have the hissing.

Where do you live? I live in Vancouver and the reception with this phone is quite clear, and all my friends say they hear me clearly.

I'm from regina, saskatchewan. I honestly have no problems with the reception or the phone here either. I don't drop calls unless i'm in a huge metal complex like the university gym here, but that is to be expected. However, some people have complained about the echo/hissing/tinny sound, and i believe it to be a local problem with their towers or maybe a batch of bad p207s..

one reason for the increased signal strength is that rogers bought fido networks, and that increased signal strength by 30%... see here:

http://www.shoprogers.com/store/wir...verage/info.asp

which is pretty sweet.

Hi, I was wondering if your guys P207 has a 1. right in the middle at the top of the border where the signal strength and battery indicator is? Thanks

Posted by: Razorlution

Sorry if this question exists already, but I dont feel like scrolling through 15 pages of forums.......anyways, I just got this phone (Samsung P207) as a hardware upgrade today, initial reaction is good, and as my next choice is a Razr, this is basically my only affordable option.

My gripe that I cant seem to find a way to have the time to always appear on the front LCD display. I know it probably has something to do with the backlighting or something but I cant find the option in which to always keep the FRONT LCD always on. It bugs me because I usually use my phone to see what time it is, and it would be aggravating so have to open the phone all the time just to see the time of day.

If you know how I can get the time to ALWAYS appear on the FRONT LCD of the Samsung P207, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Posted by: Razorlution

......another question, I also cant find a way (if possible) to get my downloaded ring tones to go as my ringer for my text messages. The settings only have the predownloaded ring tones in the message center, and they are all horrible. This phone is otherwise ok, but its these little quirks that if are not on the phone that bug me, to get another one. I do have my ring tunes set as my ring for when someone calls me, but I want to get a different tone or tune for when someone text messages me.

Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone
I have a P207 (white one from Rogers) and was under the impression that I could use mp3 ringtones on my phone (I've seen a friend with tones) so I got the data-cable and downloaded Samsung PC Studio - so far I can sync my phone-book and move pictures on and off the phone but can't do that with ringtones and video's - and I assume java games. Does anyone know how to get this working? Please help Tks in advance

Please, can someone really confirm that it is really possible to download pictures from the P207 onto a pc? And tell exactly how it's done? I've gone through all threads on this subject and done as all who have suggested/claimed that they've done so, but I can only get as far as WIN XP recognising the USB connection only.

If you had read my posts (#196, 199 and 204) I had already said it can be done. Even a few others have posted they have done it. The only thing we haven't been able to do is upload any ringtones (*.mmf, *mid nor *mp3) using any of the software.

You need to have the Version of Easy Studio II Filemanager 1.0 that comes with the OEM SGH-P207 Data Kit to be able to do it. I have just about every version of Easy Studio II, EasyGPRS 2.1.8, PC Studio 2.0 and PC Studio 3.0 on several computers, and the only one I was able to do it with was the version that came with my OEM Data Kit. I ordered mine from ebay for around $45 total with shipping.

All I did was load the software from the CD-Rom and followed the instructions for the installation of the drivers specifically for the P207. It installed the Modem Driver as well and the Filemanager program to use. I just connected the phone and USB cable when the installation said so and ignored the BS message that the software and drivers were not WindowsXP certified and continued the installation. Once everything was finished, I opened the Filemanager and made sure the program was set on the correct COM Port for it to communicate with the phone.

Clicked on the Phone icon and the folders for the MyPhotos and Video was there along with the Folder that the wallpapers/images can be uploaded to are shown. By clicking on the MyPhotos folder it shows the files that are in the phone and all I did was select them and clicked the download arrow and confirm which folder on my computer I wanted to put them in.

All the above is from memory as I haven't used my P207 in over a month now.

Quoted directly from the Howard Forums rules:

No 'how do I unlock this phone' or 'free unlocking' type posts - Check the Marketplace forum.

I find at least one unlock thread in this forum every day. The rules are very clearly laid out. Additionally, the sticky at the top of the Samsung forum makes it very clear that unlock threads are not allowed.

This means that......should not be posted under ANY circumstances!

I find removing these types of threads ineffective, because people simply continue to repost their questions, essentially breaking the rules repeatedly.

Therefore, this is a final warning to all who post about unlock threads: posting unlock threads or information regarding unlocking a phone will have repercussions, just as breaking any other rule has repercussions.

Before you post, read the rules. (link)

Does anyone have problems using phone cards with this phone? I've already sent my phone in for repair twice, so I want to know if it's my phone specific. Basically, when I try to use long distance phone cards, I key in the number, but the phone doesn't let me type in the code! None of the number buttons respond when I press them, which is really weird. I've never had this problem on any other phone before, do you guys get this? Thanks!

Well i havent been on here since i got this phone. So far i love this phone..... ive had this phone for about a year now and ive had no problems yet. I have a couple of questions about the phone.....

1. What cable and program do i need to transfer pics to my comuter ( i bought a cable off ebay but i dosent work). do you have any suggestions on where to get the cable and program.

2. How do i take the front face plate off the phone. im asking this because my brother and i both have the same phone. One black and one white. We want to switch batteries and front face plates to give our phones a new look...... "panda" phones

If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

I've gone through 2 of these in the last 10 months and looking to upgrade to something else. I've had poor reception from both phones and it's hard to hear people on the other end.

how can i turn it up? just got the phone and can hear the ringer when i call it. can anyone please help, i have no booklet.

i don't know what i did but the phone is displaying 3 icons: cell phone, bldg and home

the choice is to select or exit. what should i choose?

does anyone know what does 3 icons are about?

Cell Phone = Mobile/Cell phone Number
Bldg = Work Phone Number
Home = Home Phone Number

The phone is asking you to choose which number to dial from the phonebook for contacts that have more than one number assigned to it. So for example, if John has a cell number, work number and home number, when you select John's name, it allows you to choose which number to call by selecting the corresponding icon.

If you Do Not have a phone that was sold by a USA company, you probably can download the software from www.cingular.com, If it is a USA sold cellphone, you will have to buy the datalink cable and software from cingular

if you are talking about the speaker volume during a conversation, the button on the left side controls the volume level, during a phone call.

Does anyone know if it's possible to change/disable the sounds that happen when you open/close the flip part of the phone? Very annoying.

Also, my two previous phones (Nokia 3320 and Motorola v220) had the option of different ringer "profiles". Examples of this would be silent, vibrate, soft, loud, etc. Each one would have different ring/alert options set, and you could easily cycle through them to suit different situations. Does this phone have a feature like this, or just the vibrate option that is toggled on/off by holding the # key?

Thanks in advance.

Go through the Menu and find the Folder Tones and turn that Off.

No there is no Profiles like the Nokia or Motorola in Samsungs. Only the Silent mode set to either Vibrate or Mute.

hi,

i have had this samsung P207 for almost 2 years now. i sent messages before, i have also recived them before. but i was sent 2 messages and it said "retrieving faild". soo i go to my inbox and select recive and shortly after it says the same message again. if open the message it says "faild:Service unavailable".

my internet works fine. i tried changing the network in the fun&Tunes settings, but nothing. i checked graphics and the photos are not there.

can somebody help me?

im with rogers btw

Posted by: yoosanlicious

'retrieving failed' and 'faild:Service unavailable' sounds like a server problem

do you have a network when you tried?
i mean how many bar do you get

and the 2 msgs was it one right after the other
or like the 2 random msgs that couldnt be processed

contact your cellphone service provider and ask if they are having a problem and explain yours.
first, make sure you have not used all of the room in memory ( storage )
also, if you are not the Buyer (parent), ask them if they stopped text messages.

Posted by: Sunny_tk

Text messages are fine. i could send and recive when ever and whatever. i have full 6 bars when i try to send and retrieve pictures.

"Service unavailable" messege is what i have in my inbox.
"Retrieving faild" messege is what it says when i try to retrieve the message thats in the inbox

i called rogers, i went through 3 hours of trying to re-configure my network connections and turning off my phone and what not. and they said that they was going to give me a call back, but im still waiting...

Posted by: MVRTECH

Oh , it is when you are trying to send Pictures,
Well, that is the Answer, you have to pay seperately for
that, via, internet connection service.

Ask your cellphone provider, they will tell you so.

I have a P207. The battery seems to be very weak. Is it possible to buy a new battery? If so, where and about how much would it cost. I am in the Greater Toronto area.

BLUE TOOTH, WHAT A WAY TO GET YOUR PERSONAL INFO AND DATA STOLEN.
(I can't find anything to enable the P207 on Easy GPRS) < THIS IS A SERVICE THAT MUST BE PAID FOR, AND ACTIVATED AT THE OFFICE.
DATA CABLES AND SOFTWARE, THESE CAN BE PURCHASED AT WWW.CELLPHONESHOP.COM, I got mine for my P207 there for about 24.00.
Note:, for the P207, the Free software Download at the Samsung site or is it the Cingular site, or maybe both, is for Cellphones, That Were NOT made and sold for the USA., it will of course work for other countries.

you can activate any Cingular phone with any Cingular Simms card, by calling Cingular/AT&T now, or dialing 611, the tech or service support will need the simms number and the cellphone number( located inside the phone).
