S66 No longer supported in iSync?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just installed 10.4 and my S66 doesn't work with the new version of isync, it says the device isn't supported. Is there any hope or am I out of luck?

I have found a solution to the problem:

"I added support back in for my S66. Using Textwrangler, I just changed this file:

/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist

and changed the identification string for the S56 (which is just the europe release of the same phone) to S66 (just change the 5 to 6).

For added appeal, I even created a new icon for it by making a tiff file and putting it in the same directory, then editing the plist file above where I made my changes this time to the tiff file referenced for that phone. Now when I add the phone, it has the correct icon. "

That's great! I thought I was screwed when I updated. Thanks for your tutorial.

Hi,

Thanks for posting this help, I just upgraded to 10.4 and I am having the same problem with isync. Your directions were very clear but for some reason I still cannot get the S66 to sync with isync. -"this device is not supported by isync"-

If would not mind please check over my work and see if I am following the directions correctly:

1. Using Textwrangler I am opening (/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist).

2. Replace all occurences of "65" with "66" in the following section:

<key>com.siemens.S65</key>
<dict>
<key>Identification</key>
<dict>
<key>com.apple.cgmi+cgmm</key>
<string>SIEMENS+S65</string>
</dict>
<key>InheritsFrom</key>
<array>
<string>com.siemens.S5x</string>
</array>
<key>Services</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>ServiceName</key>
<string>com.apple.model</string>
<key>ServiceProperties</key>
<dict>
<key>ModelName</key>
<string>S65</string>
<key>PhoneIcon</key>
<string>SIES65.tiff</string>
</dict>
</dict>
</array>
</dict>

3. Save the .plist file

4. Launch iSync

5. What about the "S5x" does this need to be changed also?

Thanks for any help you can offer, I appricate your time very much.

Respectfully,

JJ Briggs

I'm just going to go ahead and host the fixed .plist file.

http://homepage.mac.com/jburke7/MetaClasses.plist.zip

Just replace the "MetaClasses.plist" in:

/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/

with the one included in the .zip. Let me know if you are still having trouble.

Guin,

Thanks very much, that did the trick.

For others that read this thread, I did have to do one thing: after installing the .plist file iSync still did not recongnize my S66. I had to then delete the
"pairing" information in bluetooth preferences between the phone and my mac. Only after reestablishing the link between the computer and the phone was isync able to recongnize the S66 phone.

Guin, thanks again for your time. I thought that I was going to have to have the first reason to not like Apple. Not the case anymore.

Thanks,

JJ Briggs

Um, the S56 is the US version of the predecessor phone that was released three years ago, and is definitely NOT the european release of the same phone.

The european release of the same phone would be the S65.

This may cause some problems down the road.

You're correct, I was just pasting from Apple's forum and neglected to fix the mistake. Hopefully using the S56 wont be a problem as our only current options are the S55, the S56 and the SX1 as those are the only officially supported iSync Phones.

Would it be possible to just hack in the whole new S66 entry? Say, just enter a whole new sibling with identical properties to, for instance, the S56 entry with changes made for the S66? I'd give it a shot, but I'm lazy and apprehensive.

The update to iSync that was released today (2.1) breaks s66 compatiblity so i've gone ahead and made a new fixed .plist that solves the problem. You don't need the updated .plist unless you need to setup the pairing in iSync again, existing pairings will continue to work.

For the indeterminely lazy this is great.

Anyone have that modified TIFF that was floating around? I thought I heard someone made one.

I just spent the last three days trying to figure out why the metaclasses.plist modification appeared to work except for a connection error near the end of the sync. After feeling like I was back in the OS9 days of extensions-- adding a couple phone numbers to the sync list and trying a sync to see if it would work before adding a few more-- I finally narrowed the problem down to the fact that the "Birthday" field will not sync. So, if you added the birthday field to you address book cards, you will have to move them down to the notes area. Sadly, that will disable them appearing in your ical. Maybe Apple will finally add support officially soon.

I have made a point of visiting the osx feedback page http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/ every month or so to campaign for Siemens S66 support. Maybe if enough people bug them, they will support this phone soon.

As i said before

The european release of the same phone would be the S65.

I'm new to MACs... Got a Siemens S66, and have seen the fix for isync. Unfortunately, even with the freeware of Textwrangler, I don't even know where to begin to change the script.

If anyone is really bored, and would be willing to walk me through doing this, I would certainly appreciate it. I'm afraid I will crash my MAC left to myself!

Thanks- Marty

Download the latest METACLASSes.PLIST link from
http://homepage.mac.com/jburke7/MetaClasses.plist.zip

but make sure you've alread paired the unit using the Bluetooth (BT) set up wizard.

and UNZIP it
- you dont need textwrangler b/c you'll be replacing the whole file.

Go to the Applications Folder
got to the app iSync and RIGHT BUTTON CLICK on the app
a menu will appear
select "SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS"
click "Contents"
click "PlugIns"
click "ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice"
click "Contents"
click "PlugIns"
click"PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin"
click"Contents
click"Resources"

inside this folder replace the METACLASSES.PLIST file and restart you computer
then select the application
isync and " search for new device " something like that not on my BT computer, good luck
